Only five days left until New Year's Eve, so we're continuing our Fab countdown with a little dressing inspiration courtesy of Brit It girl Alexa Chung. If getting dolled up in sequins isn't your thing, opt to keep it understated with an alternative to the sparkly show dress. Alexa's crisp white shirt and shorts get dressed up via a couple of statement necklaces, pretty clutch, and leg-elongating platforms. Channel the same for your own New Year's soiree, even add a pair of lacy tights ($18) to glam it up another notch. Click the items above to snag the same chic evening look.

Trend Alert: Choppy Ruffles

A deconstructed spin on the ruffled dress, the choppy ruffle is a little less dainty and a lot more rock n' roll.

A deconstructed spin on the ruffled dress, the choppy ruffle is a little less dainty and a lot more rock n' roll. It's flatter in shape, and a bit edgier than its frilly counterpart. Zoe Saldana recently attended an event decked out in a midnight blue dress with choppy tiers and chic mesh inserts. She kept her accessories simple, and streamlined the look with a classic pair of Brian Atwood pumps. Try this updated twist yourself by shopping the pieces below.

Chanel Iman and Behati Prinsloo Pose For LOFT's Fall Catalogue

Have you noticed how fabulous LOFT has been as of late?
Ann Taylor Loft Fall 2010 With Chanel Iman

Have you noticed how fabulous LOFT has been as of late? They've majorly stepped up their fashion game, so much so that I even got my favorite pair of baggy boyfriend denim shorts from there recently. To add more fashion to that fire, they've hired famous faces Chanel Iman and Behati Prinsloo to model their latest Fall collection. Boxy tweet jackets, dotted tops, perfectly cropped trousers, faux fur vests, chunky sweaters, and more are awaiting your approval. Be sure to also check out parent company Ann Taylor's newest celeb face, Naomi Watts.

In The Showroom: LOFT Fall 2009

Last night we had the chance to check out the new LOFT collection from Ann Taylor. Part of the "misses" revival effort, their aim is to give women affordable clothing options that still live up to high fashion standards. LOFT, the younger and more casual branch of Ann Taylor, wants shoppers "to get a month's worth of wardrobe options with a minimal investment" and so started with "one perfect pair of jeans" and went on from there. Our favorite pieces in the Fall 2009 collection were the suede bomber ($129) and the mid calf boot ($149). Check out our images from the preview along with runway stills in the gallery below.

Happy Hour: Lavender Martini

Much like hibiscus, lavender has become an increasingly popular ingredient at the table.

Much like hibiscus, lavender has become an increasingly popular ingredient at the table. I'll admit that when I first tried lavender in food, I wasn't crazy about it, as I'd always associated the flower's aroma with spa treatments.

Lavender first began to grow on me last November, when I tried Loft, a new line of flavored organic liqueurs and proclaimed the line's lavender infusion as my favorite. When a friend sent me a gift of lavender-and-thyme cookie mix for my birthday, I discovered I could appreciate those, too. I realized that, when used sparingly, lavender can lend an herbaceous, lemony quality to food that's floral, yet not overwhelmingly so.
My latest fixation is enjoying lavender infused in a sophisticated drink. If you're looking for something fresh yet simple, read more

Happy Hour: Tanger-rum-ita

When it comes to food, I try to be as receptive as possible.

When it comes to food, I try to be as receptive as possible. If I don't like something on the first taste, I'll often try it again later, just to keep an open mind and palate. I wasn't a fan of Loft's Tangerine Liqueur on its own, but I wanted to give it another chance. When I spotted a creative cocktail recipe that called for the citrus spirit, I decided this was my opportunity to try it again. Guess what? I really enjoyed it. While I thought the cello was cloying on its own, it foiled perfectly with tart lime juice.

This recipe is for a tangerine-flavored margarita — but it calls for rum instead of tequila. This tangy sipper would make an ideal happy hour cocktail for someone who prefers rum or eschews drinking tequila. To make it, read more
