Looking to Unwind? Here's How to Make Your Own Spa-Grade Eucalyptus Towels From Home

After a long week, it's time for a little pampering. One of the easiest ways to re-create the spa experience at home is with some refreshing towels that have an invigorating scent. One of our favorite scents, and the one that is famous among those who frequent gym chain Equinox, is eucalyptus. It might surprise you how simple it is to make your own DIY eucalyptus towels at home. In fact, there's a good chance you already have all that you need to make the towels at home if you use essential oils.

To get started, you'll want to find a large bowl, a few small washcloths, a small storage container with a lid, and your eucalyptus essential oil. Keep reading for full instructions on how to create your new favorite at-home spa moment.

Gather Your Supplies

First, you're going to gather your supplies. You'll need a large bowl, a storage container, eucalyptus essential oil, and your washcloths. Once you have everything together, you'll want to fill your bowl with cold water. Filtered water is best for this to make sure no other compounds in the water will break down the essential oil too quickly.

Add the Eucalyptus Oil

The amount of eucalyptus oil you add to your water bowl will depend on how much water you've put in the bowl and how many towels you're making. It's not an exact science, but you want to make sure you can really smell the eucalyptus. The best way to know if you've added enough is if the water is slightly shiny after you've mixed the water and oil together. Don't worry if you think you've added too much; you can always add more water to dilute the strong smell from the oil. For reference, we did about three cups of water and used eight to 10 drops of eucalyptus oil. Be sure to mix this well before moving to the next step.

Soak Your Washcloth

Fully submerge your towel in the oil and water mixture, and double-check that there are no dry spots on the fabric. When the washcloth is completely wet, take it out of the water, and wring out all of the excess water.

Fold and Roll the Washcloths

Fold and Roll the Washcloths

Fold and roll the soaked washcloths so they fit nicely into a container with a lid. Feel free to fold your towels however you prefer. We folded each washcloth in half, then rolled them into logs. For best results, try to get the washcloths as tight as possible so you can fit more into the container.

Place the Container in the Refrigerator

Place the Container in the Refrigerator

After rolling the washcloths, put the lid on the container and place it in the fridge. Take extra care to make sure the lid is sealed tight so your refrigerator doesn't end up smelling like eucalyptus, or worse, your towels like leftovers. Leave the container in the fridge for at least two hours before using one of the washcloths.

Enjoy Your Spa Moment at Home

After the washcloths have completely chilled, take one out of the container and use it. Eucalyptus towels are great to use after a hard workout, when you're feeling stressed, or when you want to treat yourself to something special during the day. The eucalyptus towels will last in your fridge for a few days before the oils start to really break down, so be sure to use them within three days of making.
