What You're Wanting: A Retro-Modern Kitchen

I've become a little obsessed with the Life archives, which were recently added to Google Images. If you're not careful, you too could be pulled into hours of poring over images from America's past. This image, of Joan Wilson whipping up something yummy in her stylish circle skirt, was taken in 1950. I love the look of her kitchen, which would be a classic look in today's midcentury modern-obsessed kitchen world. Of course, you don't want to simply re-create this look in your home, though. You also want to add a modern, up-to-the-minute touch to the retro look and, of course, a lot of your own style.

Holidays are on my mind lately, as is the perfect table setting. I love seeing family and friends gathered around a gorgeous table; nothing says "holiday" to me the way that a perfectly set table does.

For the latest what you're wanting, I asked you how you'd furnish, accessorize, and style an outdoor dining room for Adrian Brody and Spanish girlfriend Elsa Pataky's stone castle-like house in upstate New York. The house is stunning, so I'm sure a basic picnic in the grass would still be glamorous, but AudreyStar really took the challenge and ran with it. So she wins the Sugar swag of her choice as a reward! Not only did she choose colors and materials that created a cohesive space, but she thought about all of the details of what a great outdoor space should have, including everything from lounge seating to festive napkin rings. What You're Wanting: An Outdoor Dining Room For Adrian's Castle

As I recently shared with you, Adrian Brody and Spanish girlfriend Elsa Pataky are putting down roots in a stone castle-like house in upstate New York. The photos, which were splashed across the pages of Hello!, are pretty over the top with the lovey-dovey behavior between the two, but the building itself is fascinating.

While Giorgio Armani apparently designed the interiors, I figure that no castle is truly complete without a fit-for-a-king outdoor dining area. So, for the latest What You're Wanting, I want to know how you'd furnish, accessorize, and style an outdoor dining room for this home. Would you throw down some rugs? Use indoor furniture outdoors? What You're Wanting: A New Kitchen For Peggy

I love Peggy Olsen, the junior copywriter on Mad Men. She's tough as nails, fascinatingly complex, and a genuinely good person. While I have some hope for her personal fashion changing a bit since she's been hanging out with openly gay and Euro copywriter Kurt (he made a vast improvement to her hair), I'm not so sure if I'm so hopeful for her apartment.

For this latest What You're Wanting, I want to know how you'd improve Peggy's kitchen. As you can see from this photo, it's pretty dull. What would you do to improve the look? What You're Wanting Revealed: The Pickfair Mansion

When the LA Times recently ran pictures of the Pickfair Mansion, which was often frequented by luminaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joan Crawford, Albert Einstein, and Amelia Earhart, I was particularly taken with the grandeur of the foyer. So, for this latest What You're Wanting, I asked how you'd decorate this glamorous entry.
I was really impressed by the look that Mrs W put together. She writes, "I love the mix of organic and ornate details in the foyer of the Pickfair Mansion. If I were to redecorate the entry hall, I would want to keep the pieces light and simple so as not to detract from the beautiful architectural details in the space. I would use a round table in the center of the hall to carry through the medallion on both the ceiling and floor and accent it with fresh flowers. I would use an armoire in a light color to add storage without bogging down the space. Two chairs on either side of a small table would give a place to remove shoes, etc. I would finish the design by adding details that echo the doors and ceiling like a few ornate frames and maybe a floral accent pillow."

I also loved the look that Iwillmarryunick put together. When putting together her look for this Pickfair Mansion room, she decided she'd go the route of "keeping it simple with lovely accent furniture." I completely applaud this. The room's ornate ceiling, doors, and gleaming floors are all ready the main attraction. It really needs little else besides some classic accent furniture pieces to complete the look.

The LA Times recently ran pictures of the Pickfair Estate, which was originally owned by silent film actors Mary Pickford and her husband Douglas Fairbanks. This grand estate used to host parties frequented by luminaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joan Crawford, Albert Einstein, and Amelia Earhart. It's now on the market for $60 million. I love the grand feel of all of the rooms, and was particularly taken with this room.

So, for this week's What You're Wanting, I want to know how you'd decorate this room. What would you pick to complement the beautiful stained glass, Deco-patterned doors? When Danny Seo gave us a peek into his new home, I was taken with this flea-market art find. So, for this latest What You're Wanting, I asked you to decorate a room to complement this elephant art.

This week, you provided me with lots of inspiration for how to use art in unexpected places - including in the bathroom. Check out my favorite looks below.

I was really impressed by the look that Grits put together. She writes, "I decided to do an office/guest room. I didn't go overboard on the elephant theme, but tied it in a couple of ways. I couldn't pass up the side table for the sofa (which would serve as a nightstand when it's pulled out) - the legs look too much like tusks! "

I decided to incorporate it into the type of room I've been wanting lately: a craft room. Workspace and storage were my primary focus.
