Open House: What Was Your Most Successful DIY?

For crafters and DIYers, a few failures are par for the course. That's part of the reason why successful DIY projects are such a coup. I've had my share of successes and failures, and I'm currently in the middle of one of my more ambitious projects ever. I find myself fretting over it, since I'm not sure if it's going to completely work out yet, and there are still several steps to complete.

One of my favorite DIY projects was refurbishing a wood and canvas canoe with my father. It was a project that took a long time to complete, but the end result was absolutely amazing. I loved paddling around the lake in the canoe, knowing that we'd made that moment possible thanks to our hard work.

Crave Worthy: 3 Ring Table

I love beautiful furniture designs that embrace a sense of possibility. Such is the case with the malleable design of Um Project's 3 Ring Table ($6,000).

The table is made up of three pieces: a low table, a bench, and a play surface. These three pieces can be arranged in a number of ways to accommodate your needs, or the needs of a dinner party or unexpected guests. And of course, you can separate the components to use in different areas or different rooms altogether. This piece is made from jatoba wood, a hard, dense wood, and can be used either indoors or outdoors.

Creating a memorable Thanksgiving is not just about serving a moist turkey and flavorful pureed potatoes. It's also about enjoying a meal with loved ones! Since the time spent around the table is the most important part of the day, I like to pay special attention to the table setting. It can be simple (printed tablecloth and votive candles) or complex (homemade place cards and multiple wine glasses).

Found It! Chuck Bass's Dining Table and Chairs

Chuck's brick red chairs are the West Elm Leather Scoop-Back Chairs ($199-$796).

His dining table is also from West Elm. It's the Round Dining Table with Cutout Legs ($449-$599).

Before and After: Sunny Pops of Yellow

Found It! Glass and Chrome Side Table

In last night's episode of Melrose Place, Lauren was a bit broody beside a glass and chrome side table. I'm generally not one for this clubby décor, but I will say the table is an example of great modernist design. In fact, it's a pretty iconic piece. Wondering where you can get one? Then read more.

The table was designed by Irish furniture designer and architect Eileen Gray, who pioneered the modern movement in architecture. It's called the E1027 Table, and it has a glass top and a chrome-plated steel base. Originally designed for her sister, who was a fan of breakfast in bed, it has an open base which allows you to pull the table close, and a top that can be adjusted to four different heights.

You can find this original Eileen Gray Side Table ($467.50, reduced from $550) at Design With Reach, or you can buy a knock-off Eileen Side Table ($179.99) at Bed Bath & Beyond on the cheap.

Roundup: Mirrored Cocktail Tables

I was taking a look at some set photos of Melrose Place and noticed this showstopping clover-shaped mirrored cocktail table. It was from Horchow/Neiman Marcus, but it doesn't look like it's available any longer - to be honest, this whole room looks like it could have been furnished by Horchow. Anyway, you know how I love mirrored furniture, so it's no surprise that this caught my eye. But seeing it makes me think if you're going to go for the glitzy trend, you may as well show it off to your cocktail party guests. Desire/Acquire: Dessouschic Console Table by Noé Duchaufour Lawrence

I'm absolutely in love with the shape of the Dessouschic Console Table ($11,334) by Noé Duchaufour Lawrence, and you also know how much I love white furniture. But unfortunately it is hilariously out of my price range. Lucky for me, there's a much, much, much more affordable alternative. And it's equally chic. Want to see it? Then read more.

The Brocade Home Silhouette Console Table ($499) has a very similar shape, with slightly less detail, and comes in the same glossy white finish. For a table that's only used as a landing strip or a decorative piece, it definitely fits the bill.
