I've had 18th century design on my mind lately . . . I'm really feeling damask fabrics, carving wood, and gilding as of late. I guess I'd like a little Marie Antoinette-esque design in my life; but not too much, I'm a modern gal! The Neiman Marcus Carved Loveseat ($2,999) has all of those elements that I adore, that make me feel like I'm strolling the pavilions of Versailles. But I think it could be easily integrated into my modern home, perhaps beside a slick white side table or some mirrored furniture. Even if it doesn't make its way into my digs (long shot), I'll still "Ooooh" and "Ahhh" over it. Will you?

Ask Casa: A 74 Inch Sofa

Hi Casa,
I need one loveseat or sofa with arms that's no longer than 74 inches, upholstered in white/off-white/ivory, etc. I'm open to both traditional and modern designs, and I'd like one that doesn't take more than about a month to be delivered. Also, since it's a gift, I don't really have a budget, but try not to break the bank.
Any idea where I can find one?

So it sounds like you're looking for a versatile, classic couch for a small apartment, huh? Although 72" wasn't the easiest number to deal with, I did manage to track down several options which should fit the bill. I found a mix of styles, ranging from very traditional to mid-century modern to boudoir glam. If the sofa is not shown in white or off-white, it can be ordered in the color of your choice. Love It or Hate It? Modulus Loveseat

The Modulus Loveseat (price upon request) from Bike Furniture Design is constructed of strategically bent and welded steel bicycle rims and is available with inner-tube upholstery or custom-made cushions in a variety of fabrics and materials.

I can see this situated in an upscale bike boutique or a super-cool bicycle messenger bar, but I don't think this loveseat has a lot of range. Still, it's cool that this furniture is made from recycled bike parts.

Casa Quickie: Mix Warm and Cool Colors

Since complementary colors offer a very strong contrast, using them together is a great way to assert your decorating personality in a bold and confident manner. For instance, this cool turquoise color, used throughout most of this room, is offset by one splash of red, shown in this loveseat. While the loveseat is only one element, it actually dominates the room. This is because when warm colors (such as red or yellow) are used with cool colors (such as gray or blue), they tend to draw the greater emphasis.

I've been coveting the look of the new print ads for Elizabeth Arden's new fragrance, Pretty. The vibrant flowering wallpaper in the background is over-the-top glam, as is the silk-upholstered loveseat. The print ad definitely borrows from Sofia Coppola's film, pushing a Marie Antoinette vibe.

Coveted Crib: Lamptastic in London

Any good interior designer will tell you that lighting is everything. But when we regular folk start decorating our homes, it's usually the last thing we think about. Furniture first. And when designers say "lighting is everything," they're not talking about the style of a floor lamp, but the light it gives off. But, if a lamp is unique enough, it can make a room. Take three wild, fringed Victorian lamps, two oversize candelabras, and a set of candlesticks and put them in one room, and you've got it made. That's what the owners of this eclectic Victorian house in London, which is used for photo shoots, did and I can't help but feel a twinge of "I wish I were cooler" just looking at it. A Shaker rocking chair covered in fabric. A patchwork sofa. A moss-covered loveseat in the garden. This house, with its wealth of theatrical, mix-and-don't-match furnishings set on a solid gray and white background, suggests that overdoing it may be the only way to do it.
