Su Casa: Show Me Your Casa!

I hope that you spent some time this month getting your love shack romance ready. Even though we're finally at the end of February, though, doesn't mean that it's time to stop loving your casa. In fact, I want to see it, so I can fall in love with it, too! Is your casa looking lovely? Then show it off in my group on TeamSugar called Su Casa, where readers can share snapshots and stories related to home decorating, crafts, organizing, and gardening.

A Su Casa post could be anything from a photo of your favorite room to a tiny nook you're tickled by. Think of it as a Look Book for home style. If I see something I like in Su Casa, I might end up featuring it on CasaSugar, so don't be surprised if you get an email from me!

To join the Su Casa group, just follow this link and click "subscribe" beneath the photo on the lefthand side of the page. Once you're subscribed, click Share in the upper lefthand menu of any TeamSugar page and choose what type of post you want to create. If you have just one photo and some text, create a blog; if you have a gallery you want to share, select "photos."

TeamSugar has a great primer on how to create a blog post, so check that out if you've never posted one before. Here's a rundown of the basic process:

Add a Title and the Body (content for your post). Don't forget to click Check Spelling link and Upload an Image to make your post stand out!
Post this to a group? Click on the dropdown menu and select the Su Casa group. You will only be able to see groups you're subscribed to, so if you haven't joined Su Casa yet, you will need to.
Click on the dropdown menu and choose the Home and Garden Channel and add some keywords (use a comma, if needed!) in the Tags text box. Then click "I'm done" to view your post!

Love Shack: Romancing Your Walls

Looking to add a final touch of romance to your home this month? Then don't forget your walls! By adding a new print to your home, you can easily change the mood of the entire room. If you're thinking about adding some romantic prints to your wall, Montreal-based photographer Irene Suchocki is an excellent choice. Irene's photos capture a sense of mystery and beauty in her subject, whether she's turned her lens to a flower or a common park bench. She says that she enjoys "creating little poems for the eyes."

Irene's work has appeared on numerous book covers, magazine spreads, and in exhibitions at festivals such as Sundance. Best of all, her prints are quite affordable, ranging in price from $25 to $185. Take a look at the gallery and see if anything catches your fancy.

Open House: A Spa-Like Bathroom

I've been posting a ton of ideas for bringing romance to your Love Shack this month, including plenty of products and a handful of crafty DIYs. One place still to be conquered, though, is the bathroom.

So for this Open House, I want to hear your tips and thoughts on transforming your bathroom into a calm and tranquil spa-like chamber, where romance is bound to follow. Aside from the Bath-O-Matic Bathtub Filler, what products do you use or suggest to get the look and feel of a spa? What color schemes work best? What DIY projects have you completed to make this transformation? What layout and methods of organization and storage do you recommend?

Love Shack: Candela Lights

You can quickly change the mood of your Love Shack by switching off overhead lighting and setting votives around the room. But, since there's nothing romantic about burning the house down, why not go for some Candela Lights ($69-$129), rechargeable and portable lights that give off an ambient glow? They light up as soon as they're removed from their dock, and recharge in the same sense. Candelas are also illuminated by LEDs so, they're pretty darn energy-efficient, too.

Since it's Love Shack month, and since I've been yearning for a cozy throw as of late, I think this Silvretta Heart Throw ($72, reduced from $85) is an ideal steal. Love Shack: Incense Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

According to The Mistic, an old-time occult shop that supplies products and services for the "spiritually minded," in New Orleans (a place with a long history associated with sellers of Hoodoo and Voodoo products), incense can be used "in spells to encourage romance, stimulate sexuality, draw love, and create harmony."

Some of the herbs included in these incense blends are juniper berries, lavender, calamus root, basil, red roses, periwinkle, and cinnamon. According to the Mistic, "Occultists generally agree that the best time to do work which draws love and sex is Friday under the Waxing Moon or Full Moon." And, single gals, incense can be used, according to the Mistic experts, to "lure anyone to your shores," or just to "create a general feeling of love amongst partners, friends, family, or coworkers." Are you an incense person? Or would you try it, considering the benefits to your Love Shack? Personally, I just can't fall in love with the scent . . .

Do You Use Candles to Set the Mood?

Nothing is easier (and more economical) for setting the mood in your love shack than lighting candles. I admit though, I often forget to light them at the dinner table or to warm up a room. How about you?

Midday Muse: Love Is Where You Find It

For that matter, your Love Shack is where you find it as well. For this little fellow, it's in the middle of this gorgeously heart-shaped leaf. Valentine's Day may be over, but that doesn't mean that the love has to end. Indeed, there's still two weeks left with which to explore this month's theme. So don't be surprised to find yourself reading more posts about how to love your home.
