Gifted: Art For Newlyweds

Welcome to my new feature, Gifted, where I suggest home- and garden-related gifts that are chic, economical, and lovely. For my first post, I was inspired by my need to buy a present for some friends who just tied the knot. If you, too, need to purchase a present for some newlywed friends, consider buying them a piece of art. This is the kind of gift that you should probably consider only if you know their taste; if not, it might be best to stick to the registry. However, if you know them fairly well, you can probably pick out a piece of art that the couple will adore. Lela Rose didn’t disappoint with her unusual mix of colors (from creamy neutrals to acid green and royal blue) to her sequined glittering minidresses and one-shouldered numbers. There were some 1960’s, shift-style dresses, and graphic prints, but overall Lela’s show was sophisticated and modern.

Madonna Dishes on Her Lourdes-Inspired Clothes For Macy's

While some of you are skeptical about Madonna's new clothing line, perhaps some solid details will sway you. The pop icon, known for her breakthrough ensembles on and off the stage, is now part of a multi-label fashion project called MG Icon. Her first project? A Macy's junior's line - targeting 13- to 25-year-olds - inspired by her daughter Lourdes Leon. “Lourdes has an incredible sense of style and her point of view on fashion has definitely been an inspiration for the line,” said Jeff Gennette, from Macy's.

The collection - dubbed Material Girl - will retail from $12 to $40 and will include apparel, footwear, handbags, and jewelry. Since it's inspired by her Mini-Me, we're guessing it'll probably include studs, faux leather, and graphic tees. The collection, debuting in August, will be promoted via online and print campaigns - wouldn't it be fun if Lourdes starred in the ads? If that sounds a little too teeny bopper for your taste, Madonna has more up her fashion sleeve including an upcoming designer sunglasses collab.

Website of the Day: The Printliminator

Do you ever find yourself printing up maps, recipes, or articles from the Internet, but rather than just getting the doc you want, you end up with a page filled with advertisements and graphics? A new site called The Printliminator, which I spotted on makeuseof, is a bookmarklet tool that will help you remove all of the "junk" on webpages before you click print - helping you save ink and paper.

To get started, just drag the bookmarklet into your bookmarks toolbar, and then go to the website you want to print from and click the button. From there you'll be able to select the stuff you don't want included on your page. Be careful what you remove because there isn't a back button (you can always just go back to the site if you want to make changes). If you like this site, another website to help you print clean and easy to read webpages is PrintFriendly.

Celeb Style: Lindsay Lohan

While leaving a hotel in London, the 6126 designer emoted major slick factor in an oversize wool blazer, graphic print tee, skinny jeans, and ravishing over-the-knee boots. A cozy scarf and dark Ray-Ban aviators finish off her irresistible incognito ensemble.

Who Wore It Better? Gucci Graphic Print Dress

Gucci's red and purple graphic print dress is so fabulous, no wonder it caught the attention of not one, but two ladies! Rihanna wore it to the Kids' Choice Awards back in March, and Kimberly Stewart recently wore it out to dinner with her brother. Both gals chose a triple-strap belt and ankle-strap sandals. Coincidence much? I do like Kimberly's red accessories, but I can't deny that Rihanna's bod looks sizzling. Who do you think wore it better?

Artist of the Day: Melissa Moss

Los Angeles-based painter Melissa Moss makes artwork that seems fit for a children's fairy tale. From her graceful, curtseying trees to her odd little nubbin creatures resting beneath the splayed gills of gigantic mushrooms, these paintings beg for a fanciful storyline. And her use of color? Visually arresting, to say the least. As Melissa writes in her artist's statement,"I use color as my primary artistic element. I’ve studied the meanings and associations of colors and their subtle shades and tones and use this knowledge to convey the mood of each painting."

Melissa's work can be seen in galleries in Los Angeles, Seattle, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Chicago, among other cities. If, like me, you find Melissa's work enchanting and would like to get a print for yourself, you can pick one up at 2Modern, Indie Fixx, or Little Paper Airplanes.

Sneak Peek! Jonathan Saunders For Topshop

Jonathan Saunders is still going strong with his collaboration with Topshop. While his past collections with the retail giant were bright and bold, his latest offerings hit a different note. "My collection for Topshop this season has been inspired by sportswear and workwear, as well as the bold and graphic shapes of the Memphis movement. It’s perfect for urban city dwellers," said Saunders. His new line, debuting Jan. 22, takes on a more minimal approach using geometric shapes and color blocking techniques. The only colors used are black and white, with tricolor denim as the focal point. I like how the '90s-inspired silhouettes are tempered with his iconic modern prints.
