Last Friday, I featured Kelly's cool succulent favors in the Weekend DIYs. Kelly wrote to me to announce that she's just opened up a shop featuring her succulent designs. I'm a huge fan of these hardy plants, and I'm also loving the designs that Kelly features at SucculentLOVE.

Bay Area landscape architecture firm Studio Green creates gorgeous garden elements for its clients, like these patio squares that have been seeded with colored glass. I love the unexpected sparkle to these simple patio steps. Making patio stepping stones isn't too difficult, and by adding colored glass tiles, you can get the same special sparkle without all of the work of sanding down the broken glass pieces.Summer is an ideal time of the year to make these pavers, since hot, sunny weather will help them dry more quickly.

My mother-in-law has amazing flower and edible gardens at her cabin on Whidbey Island, off the coast of Washington. She also has a very exuberant ball-fetching standard poodle named Zoe. When I visited the cabin last weekend, I walked around her property, stunned by the bursts of color from her rhododendrons, peonies, roses, lilacs, honeysuckle, and numerous other flowering plants.

If you're in London, stop by the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to see garden designer David Domoney's Biker's Garden, which may be the perfect garden for a motorcyclist with a green thumb. When asked to explain the design, Domoney said, "this is the Hells Angels' garden — it's called Ace of Spades after Motorhead's song, the bikers' anthem."

Over the last couple of years, honeybees have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Seeing as the buzzing creatures are responsible for pollinating many of our nation's crops, including a wide range of fruits and vegetables, their disappearance is a crisis. According to Zac Browning, VP of the American Beekeeping Federation, “Every third bite we consume in our diet is dependent on a honeybee to pollinate that food."

While I love to have birds around my home, and put out bird feeders to encourage them, I don't want them in my vegetable garden. This is especially true in the Spring, when birds might scratch up newly planted seeds. So, how to keep them out of your garden patch?
