Anyone with a little design savvy, flower-philia, or an appreciation for the way that flowers' shapes lend themselves to pattern will covet Plants and Their Application to Ornament. This reprint of Eugène Grasset 's 1897 design book features amazing botanical illustrations of a variety of flowers, from water lilies to lilacs. Each flower illustration is adapted as a pattern for use in such home design applications as rugs, stained glass windows, metalwork, and tile work. While I was smitten with nearly every illustration, I'm particularly partial to the gorgeous use of nasturtiums (seen on the cover), a flower that I often think of it as a pesky weed here in the Bay Area. A celebratory merging of the beauty of botanicals and art nouveau style, this book is sure to be a favored distraction on anyone's coffee table.

Midday Muse: Flowers for Tomboys

The inspiration I'm getting from this limited-edition print by Oregon artist Yellena? A floral design that manages to be tough and dainty at the same time. I love the combination of girly colors, like hot pink, with tomboy shades that remind me of dirt. What do you think?

I've been on the hunt for a new set of sheets for the last month or so, but I'm too picky to order them online and I haven't had time to go to the store to look for some. When it comes to sheets, I need to see and touch them before I buy them - or at least have a referral from a friend. So when a set of Charles P. Rogers Shiro 400 Thread Count Circle Sheets ($119) arrived at my desk to review, I was thrilled but still wary; I can be pretty hard to please. I brought them home and gave them a thorough test (sleeping - the best kind!) for a few days, followed by a good washing. Want to hear what I think of them?

Here's a fun post on how to do a toile-inspired manicure from OnSugar blog Beautopia:

I cannot express how much I love toile. One day my entire bedroom is going to be camouflaged as a toile hole in the space/time continuum. Konad Plate m71 ($7) has this floral pattern, which is about as close to a toile pattern they have. Usually toile is a bit busier, so If there's a better one I've missed, please tell me. I used OPI Mod About You ($5.50) as a base then used this plate and OPI We'll Always Have Paris ($5.50) for the design. This would also look amazing with black and white, and ivory and dark blue.

Liberty of London Coming to Target!

Textile and luxury accessories company Liberty of London will introduce an exclusive collection of chic Spring home must-haves for Target on March 14. The designs will feature the British brand's iconic micro-floral prints on bedding, gardening tools, planters, piggy banks, lamps, candles, storage boxes, ceramic and melamine dishes, and even a bicycle! As always, the line will be an affordable one, with most accessories under $10 or $20, while a quilt rings up at $70 and a floral beach cruiser at $200. Liberty, which has an archive of more than 43,000 print designs, has reworked a selection of its signature floral prints into the collection. So if you've long been a follower of the label (which dates back to 1875), you may come across a few of your favorite patterns to bring home.
