Proposal, Ring, Nonwedding?

My engagement ring is a small .10-carat ring. I dislike everything about it except for the person that gave it to me, well in his eyes, I should hate him as well.

I was devastated with my proposal. Well not entirely, the best part was my daughter handing the ring over to me. The proposal took place in a parking lot. It was nothing like I had imagined or hoped it would be and then came the kicker. I opened the box only to find this small tension ring with a .10 carat, princess-cut diamond in the center. I loved the setting, hated the diamond or lack of. My initial reaction was how could he do this to me but then seeing him on one knee, my heart said the ring doesn't matter, my mind was screaming otherwise. I accepted the proposal as anyone woman would that loves the man that is asking.

Everyone gives me the inferior look when they see my ring. And those that have balls actually say something about the ring. I am embarrassed when showing it off, worst of all I can’t even take of picture of it because the pictures don’t come out. My impending wedding has no date, venue, and any question involving has remained unanswered after three months. Everything went south ever since the proposal. Partially because of my resentment and the other part is his lack of interest in even planning a wedding. Plus everything he looks at is out of our price range. We love each other dearly, but I am just so upset at the entire thing. We have tried communicating about all these issues and it’s just making things worse. Am I overreacting or do I have reason to be upset about everything?

Adorably Geeky Proposal: Super Mario World Edition

I've seen some good proposals in my day, but this one has to take the Super Mario cake. Using his geek smarts, this gaming guy asked his equally Mario-obsessed gal to be his "player two" by the light of their Super NES, and a hacked copy of Super Mario World. It doesn't get any better than that! And although the vessel of this sweet surprise wasn't Super Mario Bros. 3 (which is battling Tetris right now to take the title of the Best Video Game Ever, it's still pretty sweet. Would You Say Yes to a Cupcake Proposal?

I was browsing the YumSugar Community - brides to be: did you know there is an entire group devoted to Wedding Talk? - when I stumbled across these adorable cupcakes. Reader and foodie Kbussanich says that her boyfriend surprised her with the proposal and cupcakes!

The cakes were created by the Flour & Sun Bakery in Pleasantville, NY, and were a mix of chocolate and vanilla cake with vanilla icing that was dyed bright blue. When she heard Kbussanich's answer was yes, the bakery's owner sent over an engagement gift of seasonal (pumpkin and apple with cream cheese frosting) cupcakes. While I'm not a fan of public proposals, the idea of cupcakes at home is incredibly sweet. What do you think? Would you say yes to a cupcake proposal?

The Word "Fiancé": Love It or Leave It?

A friend of mine recently got engaged but shudders at using the word "fiancé" to refer to her affianced. It feels more natural to say "boyfriend" when talking about her husband-to-be. I propose that she go with something intentionally hokey, like "my intended." How do you feel about using the word fiancé?

Big News! Archie Proposes to Veronica

Well, Betty already spilled the beans on her blog, but today we'll get to read how it all goes down when Archie Marries Veronica: "The Proposal" hits comic book stores.

That's right: one of the world's most comically long love triangles is coming to an end with the latest issue of Archie comics, which will be the first in a six-part wedding series. For more than 60 years, the endearing Archie character has gone back and forth between perky blond Betty and sophisticated, dark-haired Veronica, to whom he finally pops the question. But as the creators point out, a six-book series leaves room for plot twists.

Did you read the Archie and Betty & Veronica comics as a kid? I'll admit I was always a Veronica girl. Do you think Archie is making the right choice?

A Swinging Stephen Moyer Gets Engaged to Anna Paquin

True Blood heartthrob Stephen Moyer hit the beach with his son yesterday in LA amid some big news for the actor. After less than a year of dating, Moyer is engaged to his costar Anna Paquin. Despite their 12-year age difference and his two kids with a longtime girlfriend, the couple has been inseparable since they went public with their relationship in February. Moyer's vampire alter-ego probably wouldn't be seen having so much fun on the beach, but Stephen played around on the rings and took a swim. He didn't treat us to any actual shirtlessness, but it looks like he has a body that could have easily earned a spot in our Hot Shirtless Men of 2009 bracket.

Awkward! Reusing a Ring Designed For a Previous Engagement

An engagement ring has so much symbolic value that people often get a little obsessed with its design, cost, and the method in which it's presented. A reader writes in with the following question:

"I was previously engaged and the engagement was broken. The ring that I wore was one that I designed with my mother and grandmother to become a family heirloom and was purchased by my family. My ex had nothing to do with the picking out or paying for the ring.

I am now in a relationship with someone else and we have been discussing marriage. He knows about the ring that my mother now has and has no objection to giving it to me if we were to get engaged. We have also discussed getting it engraved or adding a band to it. Is it tacky to 'reuse' this ring?"

DIY: Vibrant Pom-Pom Napkin Rings

After helping one of my friends with the flowers for her big day, I was asked by another friend to put together the festive napkin rings for her wedding. Rather than waste money on buying 60 rings, we made these flower-inspired pom-poms to adorn each napkin. These pom-poms can easily be customized to suit any color scheme. While mine were for a wedding, the fun napkin rings are great for any special occasion, be it a baby shower, engagement party, or dinner party! This idea was adapted from something I saw in Martha Stewart Weddings. To make the pom-poms, you will need colored tissue paper, floral wire, and satin ribbon.

Cut four sheets of tissue paper into five- by 10-inch rectangles. Make 3/8-inch accordion folds.
Fold a 18-inch floral wire in half and wrap around the middle of the folded tissue paper and twist.
Trim ends into a rounded or pointed shape.
Carefully separate the layers of the tissue papers, pulling each layer toward the center.
Use the extra wire to make a loop on the back of the pom-pom. Insert a 12-inch piece of ribbon through the loop.
Tie ribbon around the napkin. Voila: a fabulous flower-like napkin ring to dress up any table!

Fab Finding Follow-Up: Engagement Par-tay!
