Cool Idea: Modern Doilies
Kristan Cunningham, interior designer and Design on a Dime host, recently remodeled her rental apartment on a tiny budget. One of the ideas she shared with the LA Times was using her grandmother's antique doilies as decoration in her bedroom. This is yet another example of the growing modern doily motif trend I wrote about back in November.
Scenes From New York's Design on a Dime Event
If you're a New Yorker, you may have been lucky enough to catch the Design on a Dime event that finished off this weekend. Over 40 of the world's top interior designers, including Elizabeth Bauer, John Bartlett, David Cafiero (Chloe Sevigny's designer), James Huniford and more, created room vignettes for the event, and furnishings were sold off to visitors at a 40 to 60 percent discount. The proceeds benefit Housing Works, the nation’s largest grassroots AIDS service organization, but another perk is that each vignette is an inspiration for those of us decorating our own homes.
Sale Alert: Design on a Dime Ends Today in NYC
It always feels good to get your shop on at discount, but when it's also for a good cause, you've really got to pat yourself on the back. Design on a Dime, a design charity event which benefits Housing Works, the nation’s largest grassroots AIDS service organization, ends today. This Just In: Maggie Gyllenhaal Makes Time For Housing Charity
Between shooting films, spending time with her beautiful daughter Ramona, and looking lovely at the The Met's Costume Institute Gala, you'd think that Maggie Gyllenhaal would have her hands full. However, she still has time to give back to the city of New York: Maggie's teamed up with Real Simple and Design on a Dime for the fourth-annual Design on a Dime charity event, which will benefit Housing Works in New York.
Taking place from Thursday, May 8, through Saturday, May 10, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City, the Design on a Dime Benefit will feature designers such as Casa favorites Charlotte Moss and Jamie Drake
