Want to make the heart-shaped box of chocolates you've bought for or received from your beloved a keepsake item? Why don't you découpage it? Using the bottom of the box as a stencil, trace a heart shape onto a sheet of pretty patterned paper.

Welcome to the sixth project in my 12 DIYs of Christmas series! We all go through that mental checklist (keys, wallet, phone?) before we set foot out of the door each morning. Thus, having a place to stash your must haves is a big help in the tardiness (and sanity!) department.

I love this instant-art idea, used in one of the Superior Deluxe Rooms at the Portland Ace Hotel. It also seems like it's begging to be DIYed.

Découpaging your walls with pages from an old book, antique maps, or magazine covers can instantly transform a boring wall into a conversation piece. Your wallcovering will be one of a kind, a quality that even the most glam wallpaper can't give you. Some of you might think that tearing up a book for any project is sacrilegious.

Découpage is the art of cutting and pasting. Some projects are more complicated, like my découpage glass bowls. But, others, like these glass magnets, are straightforward and quick.

While this project was identified by Martha: The Martha Stewart Show as a DIY for baby blocks, I think they'd make a cool addition to a very grown up bookshelf or fireplace mantel. You can coordinate the images and paper you select for the greatest decorative impact.
What You'll Need
- 3 1/4-inch square wood block
- Sandpaper
- Scissors
- Acrylic paint
- Mod Podge
- Paintbrush
- Decorative paper
- Emery board
- Letters, numbers, and embellishments
- Sponge

On Sept. 14, home accessories dynamo John Derian will introduce a collection for Target based on the découpage pieces that made him rise to shelter world fame. The collection will feature antique print imagery like the fruit, flower, and animal prints that Derian typically layers and pieces together under his glass accessories, but instead they will be printed on melamine.

TeamSugar member Harmonyfrance has shared some photos of her mom's beautiful accent wall. I love decoupage when it's done well, and Harmonyfrance's mom is an expert.

This is my mother’s magnificent collage wall.

I'm a big fan of both Todd Oldham and Amy Sedaris, and when those two join forces there's no way I can avert my eyes from all the good advice and funny banter. In this video, they show you how to decoupage a cute accent table, though the lesson is served up with a side of cheeky commentary — and I wouldn't want it any other way!

One of my favorite craft projects is découpage on glass. With a few supplies and a couple hours of your time, you can have a très elegant home décor item to use as a housewarming gift or as a festive candy dish for your Thanksgiving party!
Supplies:
- the image(s) you want to adhere (make sure it fits on your glass item)
- Mod Podge (a glue/sealer found in most art/craft stores)
- a glass bowl or plate
- two foam brushes
- Latex paint the color of your choice
- an acrylic sealer (optional)
