Aphrodite had the mythological ability make any man fall in love with her, but I think she works her ways with the ladies, too. The Modern Dose Aphrodite Shelf ($145) certainly has my heart all aflutter, giving the neoclassical a modern edge with acrylic in the shape of an ancient Grecian bust. And you know me, I always need another place to store all of my shelter magazines!

One of the Maker Faire tables that seemed to draw the most attention from curious onlookers was Aphrodite Project, a series of new media artworks, including interactive, wearable platforms that are a "conceptual homage to the cult of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, a practical object for contemporary sex workers, and a vehicle for public dialogue." While the platforms may look snazzy, shiny and sexy, the platforms are primarily about safety - they feature an audible alarm system (it's a loud piercing alarm sound), a hidden safety compartment, a GPS system and a wireless guardian system to protect women who often have very little protection. Here's more:
An integrated system of shoes and online services, Platforms draws on the innovations of the courtesans and professional companions of antiquity to improve the conditions of 21st century women who, despite advances in culture and technology, are now perceived to be outlaws by trade and are vulnerable to surveillance and violence.

She may have played a ditz in Mighty Aphrodite, but Mira Sorvino's one smart lady — she graduated from Harvard magna cum laude. So the exposed dark roots she was rocking at the Deauville Film Festival are definitely a style statement, not an accident. What do you think?

Intersex is a group of conditions where there is a discrepancy between the external genitals and the internal genitals (the testes and ovaries).
The older term for this condition, hermaphroditism, came from joining the names of a Greek god and goddess, Hermes and Aphrodite. Hermes was a god of male sexuality (among other things) and Aphrodite a goddess of female sexuality, love, and beauty.

Red lips will undoubtedly always be in style, and on Saturday, newcomer AnnaLynne McCord got in on the action. Puckering up for the "Kiss For a Cause" event, the 90210 actress helped raise money for the National AIDS Fund at the Armani Exchange in Santa Monica by handing out sweet snacks and greeting shoppers in a kissing booth.
"I was inspired to create a look between old-school Michelle Pfeiffer, Olivia Newton-John from her days in Grease, and classic Marilyn," said celebrity makeup artist Napoleon Perdis.

Here I thought we had a few more episodes of Project Runway to go, but last night was the last challenge episode before the finale. Not only that, but Heidi announced that there would be two eliminations at the end of the episode — cue the stress! Once reality sunk in, Tim Gunn swept the designers off to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they each chose one painting or sculpture for inspiration.
