This was the table setting my mother created for Thanksgiving. Typically there's not enough room for my family to sit around one table, as there are too many people when the extended family is included. However, this year Thanksgiving was scaled down. It was spent with only my immediate family and my boyfriend's family who were visiting from out of state. I have to say, my mom did a terrific job hosting and created a beautiful setting.

Here's my Thanksgiving table. It's fairly simple, but I'm very pleased with it. The hand-stencil turkey was something I made mid-day to distract myself from the smoking oven (no food was burning, the oven just decided to smoke). I think it somehow ties the red of the vase to the oranges in the gourds.

Here's my Thanksgiving table - I wanted an organic look and feel so I used wood charger plates, woven leaf placemats, linen napkins and wood napkin rings along with some cute little bird condiment cups and leaf serving plates. The centerpiece was just a glass jar that I filled up with wooden pears. The stemware is an amber crackle glass.

On the eve of Thanksgiving, after prepping all day, I had everyone go to the park for a nice long walk and while there I had everyone help me find leaves for the table. I found the beautiful branches for our arrangement there as well. So everyone participated, with a little guidance, of course, and I created the look. It was like giving thanks for what nature had given us as well! Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Tip: Have Extra Place Settings Ready

Besides setting the table early - a couple of days before Thanksgiving - I also put aside several extra place settings. I'll stack two to three plates, chargers, napkins, and utensils in a hidden spot in the dining room.

My Thanksgiving is a "the more, the merrier" type of event, so if someone shows up with an unexpected friend or family member, all I have to do is grab the extra place setting that's ready and add another chair to the table.

It's one less thing to worry about, and will ensure that you don't have to go digging into your China cabinet looking for extra plates on the big night. Got a great Thanksgiving tip? Please share it with us below!

When it comes to the Thanksgiving table, how you dress it is often as important to the hostess as what food sits upon it. Over the years, I've seen family members fuss over table settings, switching out placemats, rethinking china sets, and shifting floral arrangements.

I admit that I'm known to fuss over my Thanksgiving table as well. The first year that my hubby and I hosted Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family, I stayed up late into the night sewing a dozen napkins, pressing tablecloths, and arranging flowers. In the end though, it was all worth it. Not only did the food turn out wonderfully, but the table looked spectacular as well. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, deciding on color schemes and flower arrangements is all part of the fun.

So tell me, how do you dress your Thanksgiving table? Do you keep things casual? Is your feast a buffet-style affair? Or do you get formal with placecards and calligraphied names? Tell me all about it in the comments!

DIY: Paper Wedding Table Settings

Preston Bailey is one of the world's premiere event designers, known for his elaborate tablescapes, whose theatric designs have festooned the events of Oprah Winfrey, Joan Rivers, and Donald Trump. You can catch a glimpse of some of those looks in his latest book, Celebrations ($37). But thanks to a new project by Bailey, his table settings needn't be something you can only read about in his book - or on Page Six. Come Party With Me: Passover - The Look

Passover revolves around a traditional ceremony at a dining table, so take the time to set the table a couple of days before the dinner party. Cover the table with a printed satin gray tablecloth. Place a plate in front of each seat and top it with a gray napkin (preferably one that matches the tablecloth) rolled into a silver napkin ring. Use your best flatware and properly set the silverware with the forks on the left of the plate and the knife to the right of the plate. A spoon is necessary for enjoying the matzo ball soup - it goes on the outside of the knives. White wine and red wine glasses belong on the upper right side of the plate. For an intimate glowing atmosphere, light low candles. Fill a silver vase with flowing white flowers and make the Seder plate the centerpiece and focal point.
