Over a year ago, I picked up a pink velvet throw pillow screen-printed in gold with a feather (at right) on sale at a San Francisco boutique for $14. Since then, I've always wondered who made it, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. As it turns out, the pillow sells for over 10 times more than I bought it — score!

We're so accustomed to seeing Rachel Bilson in laid back clothing that when I saw her on the Whitney Art Auction red carpet in her tighter-than-tight Herve Leger number, my jaw dropped. It was as if I was seeing an Herve Leger dress for the first time. When I was finally able to peel my eyes off the dress, I focused on her beautiful Romanek "The Celeste” feathered clutch.

I'm a big believer in the power of accessories, but when I came across this Nasty Gal's Crown of Feathers ($18), I was hesitant. My instinct tells me this whimsical headband is likely to overpower any ensemble, regardless of my childhood fantasy to be a princess. So, while this is certainly one way to experiment with feathers, it just isn't for me.

This week, Aussie rock band Wolfmother treated audience members to a sneak listening preview at LA's Laserium Theater. The band's new album, Cosmic Egg, was appropriately promoted with these Wolfmother-printed feathers. Every well-feathered nest could use a few more feather accents, so I went looking for some good items for your casa.

I'm a huge advocate of vests, but I'm afraid this Haute Hippie Elongated Feather Vest ($695) would ruin my outfit instead of enhancing it. Am I being way harsh? It almost resembles a feather boa, but thicker.

Feathers were an unusual addition to the catwalk for Autumn 2008. Adding texture to an ensemble they appeared on the catwalk at Burberry and Alexander McQueen to name a few. Despite sounding slightly gross, they actually work well and the trend has since been embraced by the High Street.

When I think of feathers on a wedding dress, the last image that comes to mind is that of Alana Savoir's creation at Mexico Fashion Week. Feathers are supposed to lend delicateness but in this case, they have provided extreme harshness. The dress is a bit too busy in my opinion, but what really drowns the look is the feather headpiece; it reminds me of George Washington's colonial hairstyle.

I've always been under the impression that feather dusters simply redistribute dust, but it's a little more complicated than that. Apparently, ostrich-down feather dusters actually work; their feathers will trap the dust, and then you can shake it out later outside of your house. However, dusters made of anything else, including lamb's wool, chicken feathers, or synthetics, won't do a thing to help your home's dust situation.
