Sting Out of the "Hundehaus"?

That's the question on everyone's lips, after Sting's infamous trip to Germany! But it seems that Trudie has let him off with his indiscretions, after he was spotted coming out of a notorious German brothel in Hamburg earlier this month, as they attended London's Fashion For Relief charity show together. The pair came hand in hand to the charity eventTrudie and Sting, hand in hand and stayed very romantic and snuggly inside. Sting was obviously making up for something, with his continual exhibitions of public affection.Sting and Trudie
It's definitely in comparison with his behaviour in Hamburg. The 55 year old singer/songwriter had just performed in the city and swiftly jumped into his chauffeur driven silver SUV and headed off to Relax, the most luxurious of the German bordellos. The local innocently enough advertises as a strip club, although since prostitution is legal in Germany it's no wonder that the place has a reputation of having women for hire. Sting's publicist said, when asked about the incident: "Sting and his wife Trudie Styler have always been open about their interest in strip clubs. I do not know whether he went to this club. However I would not be surprised if he went. It is nothing he would be ashamed of." Well obviously Trudie wasn't to happy about it, no matter what his excuse and it certainly seems to me that romance was his only way of getting back in her good books.

Is Sting being stingy with his charity?

Sting and his wife Trudie Styler have a charity they run, the Rainforest Foundation, where they raise money to plant trees. But it seems that in the way of charitable donations, they’re running a little below the average. Trudie doesn’t think much of the criticism.

Newspaper reports claimed only 41 per cent of the funds raised at a starstudded concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall were spent on saving trees.

The New York Post also claimed the Rainforest Foundation was rated one of the worst causes by watchdog Charity Navigator.

Charity co-founder, Belgian photographer Jean Pierre Dutilleux, recently joined the attack and is quoted on blog PerezHilton.com as saying, “I have kept quiet for almost 20 years, hoping for improvement. But enough is enough.

Everything is true or worse.” But Styler has hit back at the reports, claiming the figures are misleading.
She says, “The Rainforest Foundation is celebrating its 20th year. We wouldn’t still be in business or have given out millions of dollars over the years if we’d spent everything we made immediately after it came in.”

PR Inside

Sure, you might have given millions of dollars to charity, but if you’ve raised over twice that, taken money from people that expect all of their donation to go to the cause, then all of it should go to the cause. 41% is not a great deal of money to make it into the fund, around 75% is the average for a charitable event.

Also, if members of your own organization are leaving after 20 years of loyal service to complain about the financial management of the charity, you know something fishy is going on.

Then again, any money that goes to helping protect and maintain the rainforest is going to help the rapidly warming globe.

The Rainforest Foundation concert takes place in New York this month, with Brian Wilson, Billy Joel and James Taylor headlining.

School Bus Driver Busted In Prostitution Sting.

School Bus Driver Busted In Prostitution Sting.

DETROIT, MI -- A Detroit school bus driver was arrested after allegedly trying to pick up a prostitute while driving special-needs children to school last Wednesday morning. The 30-year-old man was arrested after he drove the bus up to a decoy officer posing as a prostitute and inquired about having sex with her, police said.

At the time, the driver only had one child on the bus. He told the decoy officer he would be right back.

Police said a few moments later he returned with three more special needs children on the bus and offered to pay the officer to have sex with him. The driver handed the decoy officer a paper with his name and phone number. He was then arrested.

"At the end of the day, this is certainly not somebody that ought to be driving a school bus," said Wayne County Sheriff Warren C. Evans.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office may pursue charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child endangerment and a misdemeanor charge for offering to engage in prostitution. Police said the driver had planned on dropping off the four special needs children, ages five to nine years old, at a nearby elementary school and return to have sex.

The deputies took the children from the bus and drove them to school. The principal helped deputies to personally notify each of the children's parents.

"In my 35 years in law enforcement, I've seen a lot of outrageous things, particularly in the area of prostitution," said Sheriff Evans. "But the very idea that someone entrusted with the safety and security of special-needs children would instead put his own selfish and illicit needs first, blows my mind."

filmmakers expose L.A. restaurant serving whale sushi

A Santa Monica sushi restaurant and one of its sushi chefs were charged yesterday with illegally serving endangered whale meat. Its owners face up to a year in prison and up to $200,000 in fines. The restaurant accepts responsibility and will pay the fines, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Once again armed with hidden video cameras and tiny microphones, the team behind the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove orchestrated a sting operation in one of California's most highly regarded sushi destinations - a restaurant called the Hump - while in Los Angeles to receive their Academy Award, according to the New York Times.

The so-called "sushi sting," which involved many of the same James Bond-like undercover methods used to reveal dolphin hunting in the movie, actually began last October when the documentary's associate producer, Charles Hambleton, heard from friends that the Hump was serving illegal whale meat - a shocking allegation, even in sushi-loving Tinseltown where unusual fish imported from Japan can be commonplace menu items.

Since Hambleton knew the whole crew would be in town for the Academy Awards, it only made sense to plan the operation for that same week. And, of course, Hambleton needed time to build specialized hidden cameras for the operation too.

On Feb. 28, just a week before the filmmakers stood on the stage at the Oscars to accept their award, two animal activist associates wearing cameras and microphones sat down at the Hump and ordered a session of omakase, a sushi meal for which the chef picks all the dishes. Sure enough, the video clearly shows them being served thick, pink slices of meat - which the waitress unambiguously describes as "whale."

After feigning interest and covertly stashing the meat in Ziploc bags, the activists walked out with their evidence. Samples were then sent to the Marine Mammal Institute at Oregon State University, confirming that the meat was indeed from a whale. Worse yet, DNA from the samples indicated more specifically that the animal was a Sei whale, an endangered species. "I’ve been doing this for years," said professor Scott Baker, who performed the tests. "I was pretty shocked."

After Baker forwarded his findings to the United States attorney in Los Angeles, further investigations allegedly revealed an assemblage of shady smuggling practices occurring at the Hump, including the discovery that the restaurant's chefs likely obtained their whale meat from a mysterious Mercedes parked behind the restaurant.

ACORN Sting Filmmaker Arrested

James O'Keefe, the conservative filmmaker who posed as a pimp in video stings at ACORN field offices, has been arrested by the FBI at Sen. Mary Landrieu's (D-LA) office in downtown New Orleans, in connection to what appears to be an attempt to wiretap the offiice, NOLA.com reports:

FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O'Keefe aided and abetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office's telephone system.

A fourth person, Stan Dai, was accused of aiding and abetting Basel and Flanagan. All four were charged with entering fedral property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

O'Keefe gained notoriety for his secretly filmed ACORN videos, which caused a firestorm of media intrigue surrounding ACORN after O'Keefe posted them on the Andrew-Brietbart-owned blog Big Government last year.

UPDATE: Here is an affidavit signed by FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes (http://politics.theatlantic.com/joseph%20basel%20et%20al.pdf. )

According to Rayes, O'Keefe and another man, Stan Dai, have admitted to federal agents that he helped plan, coordinate, and prepare for the attempted infiltration and wiretapping, and the two men who allegedly posed as telephone company workers have admitted to entering Landrieu's office under false pretenses.

O'Keefe entered Landrieu's office and told a staffer there that he was waiting for someone to arrive, according to the affidavit. Special Agent Rayes states that two men, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, then entered the office wearing blue denim work pants, blue work shirts, flourescent vests, tool belts, and carrying hard hats, and claimed to be workers for a telephone company.

O'Keefe then recorded them with his cell phone (which the staffer noticed) as Basel asked to see the office phone, "manipulated" the handset, and tried to call it with his cell phone, Rayes states. Basel and Flanagan said they needed access to the phone system, at which point the staffer directed them to the GSA office in the building, according to the affidavit. They went there, were asked for credentials, and said they had left their credentials in their vehicle; neither of them actually work for a phone company, according to the affidavit.

Sting: Obama best person to handle world's 'mess'
Oct 29 02:43 PM US/Eastern By NEKESA MUMBI MOODYAP Music Writer
NEW YORK (AP) - Sting isn't a religious man, but he says President Barack Obama might be a divine answer to the world's problems.

"In many ways, he's sent from God," he joked in an interview, "because the world's a mess."
But Sting is serious in his belief that Obama is the best leader to navigate the world's problems. In an interview on Wednesday, the former Police frontman said that he spent some time with Obama and "found him to be very genuine, very present, clearly super-smart, and exactly what we need in the world."
"I can't think of any be better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam," he said.
Still, Sting acknowledged the president had a "difficult job" ahead of him.
The British singer, who released the seasonal album "On A Winter's Night" this week, said he's fascinated by American politics, Obama, and also by Obama's opponents on the right.
"It's aggressive and violent and full of fear," he said of the backlash against Obama. "They don't want change, they want things to feel the same because they feel safe there."
Sting, 58, said he's hopeful that the world's problems can be dealt with, but is frustrated that "we seem to be living in a currency of medieval ideas."
"My hope is that we can start talking about real issues and not caring about whether God cares about your hemline or your color," he said. "We are here to evolve as one family, and we can't be separate anymore."
nanonees sting cancer to death

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/6005311/Microscopic-nano...

Microscopic nanobees 'sting cancer tumours to death'

Microscopic "nanobees" that literally sting tumours to death have been successfully used to fight cancer by researchers in America.

Published: 10:00PM BST 10 Aug 2009

The US scientists unleashed swarms of the tiny artificial particles on human breast and skin tumours in mice.
Each spherical "nanobee", measuring just three millionths of an inch across, was armed with a cancer-killing toxin found in bee venom.

Targeting cancer but not healthy cells, the nanobees delivered a lethal "sting".

The bee toxin, melittin, destroys cells by drilling holes through them.

After four to five injections of melittin-carrying nanobees over several days, the growth of breast cancer tumours in the mice was slowed by nearly 25 per cent.

Melanoma - or skin cancer - tumours shrank in size by 88 per cent.

Professor Samuel Wickline, from the Siteman Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence at Washington University School of Medicine, said: "The nanobees fly in, land on the surface of cells and deposit their cargo of melittin which rapidly merges with the target cells.

"We've shown that the bee toxin gets taken into the cells where it pokes holes in their internal structures."

The nanobees are made of perfluorocarbon, an inert material used in artificial blood.

Dr Wickline's team has been investigating their use in various medical applications, including the diagnosis and treatment of narrowed arteries and cancer.

The nanoparticles are large enough to carry thousands of active compounds, yet small enough to pass easily through the bloodstream and attach to cell membranes.

Melittin injected directly into the bloodstream would cause widespread destruction of red blood cells.

But attached to the nanobees, blood cells and other tissues are protected from the toxin's effects.

None of the mice suffered "collateral damage" from the treatment and had normal blood cell counts and no signs of organ damage.

Once injected, the nanobees congregated in the cancers because solid tumours often have leaky blood vessels and tend to retain material. The same property explains how certain drugs attack cancers much more than normal tissue.

In addition, the scientists loaded the nanobees with special components designed to steer them to the right target.
One targeting agent was attracted to growing blood vessels which proliferate around tumours. When this was added to the nanobees, they were guided to areas of precancerous skin damage where the blood supply was rapidly increasing. As a result, the spread of precancerous skin cells was cut by 80 per cent.

Dr Paul Schlesinger, co-author, said: "Melittin has been of interest to researchers because in high enough concentration it can destroy any cell it comes into contact with, making it an effective antibacterial and antifungal agent and potentially an anticancer agent.

"Cancer cells can adapt and develop resistance to many anticancer agents that alter gene function or target a cell's DNA, but it's hard for cells to find a way around the mechanism that melittin uses to kill.

"Nanobees are an effective way to package the useful, but potentially deadly, melittin, sequestering it so that it neither harms normal cells nor gets degraded before it reaches its target."
Reporting their results in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the scientists said nanobees had the potential not only of tackling established tumours, but also halting the development of early-stage cancer.

Prof Wickline said melittin was "easily and cheaply produced".
"We are now using a non-toxic part of the melittin molecule to hook other drugs, targeting agents or imaging compounds on to nanoparticles," he added.

Attaching imaging agents to the spheres could provide a visual indication of how much medication gets into tumours and what effect it has.

The flexibility of the nanoparticles meant they could readily be adapted to fit medical situations as they arise, said the scientists.
"Potentially, these could be formulated for a particular patient," said Dr Schlesinger. "We are learning more and more about tumour biology, and that knowledge could soon allow us to create nanoparticles targeted for specific tumours using the nanobee approach."
