I saw this movie back in November last year, before it won all the awards and was surrounded by tons of hype.
When a Mumbai teen (Dev Patel) is arrested on suspicion of cheating on the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, he retells his past to show how he knows the answer to each and every question. Raised on the streets with his brother (Madhur Mittal), he tells of unfinished business between his brother and a long lost love (Freida Pinto).

NEW YORK - The National Board of Review has picked "Slumdog Millionaire" as the year's best film.
The board's picks, announced Thursday, are considered the first major harbinger of the Academy Awards. The win boosts the awards hopes for "Slumdog," which is viewed as the independent film most likely to follow past favorites "Juno" and "Little Miss Sunshine" in Oscar contention.

Slumdog Millionaire on-screen lovers Dev Patel (in Burberry) and Frieda Pinto (in Roberto Cavalli) pose with their eight Oscar statues on the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly.
Here’s how they got started in the biz: Dev, now 18, was recommended by Danny Boyle’s daughter who saw him on the naughty British drama Skins. Freida was a 24-year-old model and TV host who had never scored an acting role before Slumdog.

Slumdog Millionaire took home eight statues during last night’s Oscars including Best Picture, Best Score and Best Music (Song) for “Jai Ho.”
On his radio show, Ryan Seacrest debuted a remix of the “Jai Ho” featuring the Pussycat Dolls. The remix was composed by A.R. Rahman and produced by Polow Da Don.

In my opinion, the Best Picture showcase should be mandatory for all voting Academy members. It's an event that really separates the men from the boys, the strong from the weak, and the hardcore filmgoers from the casual audience. Imagine 13 1/2 hours of back to back films, supposedly the best films of the year.

I love this category- it's easily one of my favorites. Normally I go in having read most of the books that the movies are based on, but this year I'm a little out of my element with two plays nominated.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
Prediction:
Slumdog Millionaire.

Slumdog Millionaire stars Freida Pinto and Dev Patel have always denied being in a romantic relationship but the pair was spotted enjoying an intimate lunch together in Israel, where Freida is filming a new movie.
Pictures show Freida resting her head on Dev’s shoulder and although they look like they’re thisclose to kissing, they never do.

The 24-year-old actress may be the new spokesperson for the beauty brand Estee Lauder, reports WWD.
An Estee Lauder spokeswoman and Freida’s reps declined comment, saying, “We don’t comment on marketplace rumors.”
Freida recently joined Woody Allen’s upcoming still-untitled flick.

Star Power
So the biggest night in Hollywood is behind us, and there really weren’t many surprises, Slumdog Millionaire won everything, Mickey Rourke wore a weird outfit, Kate Winslet gave a cringe-worthy speech blah, blah, blah. But there were some touching and unforgettable moments. When Heath Ledger’s name was called as the winner of Best Supporting Actor, audiences weren’t sure what to expect.
