NEW YORK – One trip for their Jack Russell terrier in a plane's cargo hold was enough to convince Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel that owners needed a better option to get their pets from one city to another.
On Tuesday, the first flight for the husband-and-wife team's Pet Airways, the first-ever all-pet airline, took off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y.

After taking in Malia's soccer game this morning, the Obamas are headed to Manhattan for dinner and a Broadway show (“Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”).
The RNC issued this statement from spokeswoman Gail Gitcho:
“As President Obama prepares to wing into Manhattan’s theater district on Air Force One to take in a Broadway show, GM is preparing to file bankruptcy and families across America continue to struggle to pay their bills. Have a great Saturday evening — even if you’re not jetting off somewhere at taxpayer expense.”
And for the opposing team, a White House spokesperson read this statement:
""I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished."
