Upon arriving in Morocco, I had originally been booked to stay at Riad Monceau located in the Old Souk area, which had been booked via Expedia.com. However, after traveling more than 30 hours, we arrived at Monceau and were told they had no record of our reservation despite the fact that we had our confirmation in hand and I had email confirmation for dinner that evening (booked a month in advance). You can only imagine our panic and our exhaustion; this is not how we anticipated beginning our vacation!

Blue doors, commonly found in the Mediterranean and North Africa, are thought to repel evil. I think they're beautiful & I will definitely have one when I someday have a villa in the area. Photos courtesy of Glamour Junkie (http://glamjunkie.wordpress.com).

Skirt: H&M
Tank: Peuque (Argentinian brand)
Shoes: Tory Burch
Bag: Prune (Argentina), softest leather EVER
Sunglasses: Valentino
Cuff: from Morocco

The ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine systems used cannabis to increase libido, produce long-lasting erections, delay ejaculation, facilitate lubrication and loosen inhibitions.

Night falls in Essakane, Mali
This past week, the New York Times featured a piece on music from Mali and the Festival au Desert, which is held each January in the remote African city of Essakane, Mali.
The article made me reflect about my love of travel, my love of other cultures, and about my love of music. Among the reasons that I travel is my desire to experience the world first-hand and to step outside myself and my experiences and gain different perspectives.

So I finally decided to unpack my boxes of books and organize them on the new bookshelf today and while doing so, I came across this gem of a book, buried in the midst, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
It immediately brought me back to July 2000 right before my freshman year of college was to start and 3 months after being moved to the states in the sweltering S. Carolina heat.
