SURF CITY - A year ago this week, residents waited with the hope that their beaches would open in time for Memorial Day weekend following the cleanup of more than 1,100 World War I-era military munitions pumped ashore during a multimillion-dollar beach-replenishment project.
Now the munitions are showing up again, but so far nobody's talking about closing the beaches.
After a rare May northeaster rocked the coast last week, 13 more munitions were found on the beaches, according to U.S.

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somali pirates attacked the Maersk Alabama on Wednesday for the second time in seven months, though private guards on board the U.S.-flagged ship repelled the attack with gunfire and a high-decibel noise device.
