My fiance and I did a mini road trip through Northern Germany. We went through Bremerhaven, Oldenburg, and Bremen Germany. Nice quaint towns. We were in Amsterdam, Netherlands for the New Years holiday and we decided to explore some of Germany. It was cold and snowy but it was such a beautiful country. These were taken from Jan 8th-9th 2009. Enjoy!

Germany Offers First Nudist Flight

Fly naked on Germany's first nudist holiday flight

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - German nudists will be able to start their holidays early by stripping off on the plane if they take up a new offer from an eastern German travel firm.

Travel agency OssiUrlaub.de said it would start taking bookings from Friday for a trial nudist day trip from the eastern German town of Erfurt to the popular Baltic Sea resort of Usedom, planned for July 5 and costing 499 euros ($735).

"It's expensive, I know," managing director Enrico Hess told Reuters by phone. "It's because the plane's very small. There's no real reason why a flight in which one flies naked should be more expensive than any other."

The 55 passengers will have to remain clothed until they board, and dress before disembarking, said Hess. The crew will remain clothed throughout the flight for safety reasons.

"I wish I could say we thought of it ourselves but the idea came from a customer," Hess told Reuters by phone. "It's an unusual gap in the market."

Naturism, or "free body culture" (FKK) as it is known in Germany, was banned by the Nazis but blossomed again after the Second World War, particularly in eastern Germany.

"There are FKK hotels where you can go into the restaurants and shops naked, for example," Hess said. "For FKK fans -- not that I'm one of them -- it's nothing unusual."

"I don't want people to get the wrong idea. It's not that we're starting a swinger club in mid-air or something like that," he added. "We're a perfectly normal holiday company."

I really want to fly KLM Royal Dutch Airlines cause they're cheap and they have excellent customer service reviews (or as excellent a you can get for the price), but Orbitz is having trouble booking with them and I don't want to wait too log to book with Orbitz cause the price is going up. On the other hand US Airways has an even cheaper ticket and I could book with them today, but I keep hear horror stories about late flights and them not helping customers with problems they caused. I'm all for being cheap, and lord knows I need every penny I can keep, but is it worth having trouble on an International flight? If anyone has flown with these airlines or has any general suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I know a lot of you guys are frequent international fliers .

Oh and my passport came early, so I'm happy about that. *Does the happy passport dance.*

Berlin expecting worst post-war recession

Berlin forecast on Wednesday that Germany will suffer its deepest post-war recession this year just as Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet chewed over a historic rescue package aimed at boosting the economy.

Germany's economy, which accounts for about a third of eurozone output, will contract by around 2.25 percent in 2009, the government said, as the sharp global slowdown hits demand for the country's all-important exports.

"For this economic downturn that we are unfortunately having to predict is without precedent in the postwar period, it is the biggest slump in Germany's recent history," Economy Minister Michael Glos told a news conference.

"The German economy is facing this year the greatest challenges since unification (in 1990). Germany is integrated into the global economy like hardly any other industrialised country."

The new forecast came as Merkel's cabinet discussed on Wednesday Berlin's latest effort to help the world's biggest exporter avoid the worst: a €50-billion ($65-billion) stimulus effort.

The package, the biggest in modern German history, includes a huge increase in spending on roads, railways, hospitals and schools. Other elements include cuts in tax and social security contributions, as well as incentives for consumers to buy new "greener" cars to boost Germany's ailing auto sector.

Glos said that this programmes, together with similar efforts being made around the world, would begin to help the German economy in the second half of 2009.

Germany entered a recession in the third quarter of 2008 with two successive three-month periods of shrinking economic output. Preliminary official figures last week showed that the slowdown accelerated sharply at the end of the year, contracting by between 1.5 and two percent in the fourth quarter - the sharpest fall in two decades.

Unemployment hit three million in December, rising for the first time after almost three years of unbroken decline. Data have shown industrial orders and output falling off a cliff.

In recent years German exports have been its source of strength, but the global downturn has turned them into an Achilles' heel - Glos forecast they would slump 8.9 percent this year.

Germany "is suffering more than other countries," said Henrik Uterwedde from the Franco-German Institute (DFI). "The real motor of the economy has always been exports while domestic demand has tended to stagnate."

Glos also forecast that the jobless rate would climb to an average of 8.4 percent over 2009 from 7.8 percent in 2008.

I'm going to the Netherlands (Amsterdam briefly), Germany and Sweden this summer for two weeks! It's pretty exciting for me cause I've never been to Europe. I am parentless and had to fund this trip myself. I honestly didn't think I could. I missed a chance in HS to go, when some rough circumstances prevented my Euro trip. Anyways, I've been working like a dog (sacrificing quality time on Sugar) to make this happen and now I can finally say it's happening. My boss gave me the time off and I applied for my passport last Friday. The bulk of the trip will be spent in Germany and I'm staying with my best friend and her family. I can't say enough thanks cause the free housing is what's making this trip affordable.

I am the happiest broke person ever.

I arrived in Germany earlier today and meine bester Freundin met me at the airport. We spent most of the day on the Bahn, but we finished off the day by having a BBQ with some of her friends. It gave me a whole evening to practice my Deutsch. I met Tobi (the guy in the first picture) and his parents on the plane ride today and they were really cool. We exchanged emails and I hope to spend some time with them before I leave.

Just some random first day photos. I'm a pretty bad tourist cause I'm not much of a picture taker.
