This is long, but interesting.
One fast-growing American industry has become a conspicuous beneficiary of the recession: for-profit colleges and trade schools.
Career Education Corporation’s culinary schools, many called Le Cordon Bleu, teach skills like ice sculpture.

Because we never face up to how much we need government to do, there is a pathetic quality to our discussion of big deficits.

CasaSugar Community member Rhiannon138 posted photos of her cooler than cooler apartment in the Su Casa group, and I just had to ask her to give us a house tour. Rhiannon and her boyfriend, Victor, both students at SFSU in their 20s, and her dog Mayo live in San Francisco. They've worked very hard to make their home comfortable and stylish on a modest budget.

The Republicans simply don’t want to pass comprehensive health-care reform. That is the main lesson of today’s health-care summit. It started, as Steve Stromberg pointed out earlier, with the Republicans wanting to talk more about process than about the content of the various health-care bills.

McCain's response to the Gen Clark dustup made me wonder if his campaign is looking into the allegations in this possibly damaging article about Obama's record and the large numbers of his constitutents who lost their homes under his private, low-income housing plans.

Now, the Health and Human Services Department says similar pressure on premiums is being felt in at least six other states.

COFFEEIt's the unseasonably cold November of 2008 when I go to New York's Bowery Hotel. There's a young man sitting in the garden, wrapped in about nine black sweaters and wearing a wool hat, smoking cigarettes, sipping a latte the size of his head, and furiously making notes on a script in the bitter cold. I have read about teenage girls lighting themselves on fire in front of his hotel, but at the moment Robert Pattinson is warming his hands on a coffee cup.
