Need Help... No Idea how to hide hideous floors!

My sister recently moved in a hurry. She chose a place that had an apartment in great shape and had a pretty shocking low price tag. The downfall is that this place is 12 years old and they have not ... EVER updated the floors, or so it seems! It is a hard time for her because she has always lived in very new nice places, she just did not have time to be picky now. I want to find a way to make her new home look better, so she is happier with her choice.
The floors: They are old laminate tile floors. The old style squares that are tiled to be like a checker board. Normall that wouldn't be horrible. The thing is that they are supposed to be white and gray checkered, but they are so old they are more like grungy yellow and gray. It also seems as though they have resealed them and put some gloss over the top because boy are these floors shiny.
She is just not working on moving in so I do not have pictures yet, but I have to find a tasteful way to cover as much of these floors as possible! The tile is only in the two bathrooms and the kitchen so they are fairly simple areas the bathrooms are long and rectangular while the kitchen in an L shape. I know we can do the obvious rugs, but they are pretty large areas so there aren't rugs that cover the whole space with one and multiple just probably isn't something she is interested in. Any ideas at all will be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!!
Again this is an apartment so she cannot make any changes that cannot be easily reversed when her lease ends.

10 Simple Beauty Tips for Travelers

It's getting harder and harder to figure out how to travel and look great at the same time. No more large containers of mascara, lip gloss or toothpaste! Hair spray is verboten and gels and mousses in flight are but a wistful memory for the style-obsessed traveler. But with a little help from the Transportation Security Administration (T.S.A.) and two top New York stylists, you can arrive in style with nothing but small containers of liquid in a clear plastic bag and a little imagination.

"You can bring up to three ounces of liquids on board if you place them in one, one-quart clear plastic bag," says the T.S.A.'s Ann Richards. "There's no limit to how many three-ounce containers you want to bring as long as they all fit in only one, one-quart bag that can close with the products inside. Every other liquid must go in your checked baggage."

Makeup-wise, what's allowed? "Lipsticks, not glosses, pencils, caked mascara or powders are all allowed," says Richards. "If you're a frequent traveler, you should invest in some travel-sized grooming items. They are now usually packed in three-ounce tester-sized containers."

Landy Dean, makeup artist and Edris Nicholls, founder and hairstylist, both of the tony New York Edriss Salon (Iman and Naomi Campbell are fans) have ten other tips for getting off your next flight looking as if you deserve a vacation rather than need one:

1. Tie your hair in a scarf to combat bad hair at the end of a long flight - make it a Hermes to add extra glamour.

2. Hair powder, like a dry shampoo, helps combat oily scalp or limp hair.

3. Leave your house with a leave-in conditioner in your hair. Wrap in a scarf and you'll get a deep conditioning treatment while you earn the miles - excellent for combating the overly-dry air on board

4. As always, carry a great hairbrush. They like the junior Maison & Pearson.

5. Don't forget hair shine paper. It helps eliminate static and reduce dullness.

6. Cucumber eye pads. Pre-moistened pads soothe and refresh tired and puffy eyes. These can also be refrigerated prior to travel to further refresh eyes during flight.

7. Pre-moistened makeup remover cloths remove make up or just clean the skin mid- or post-travel. Neutrogena or Mac brands are good (Note: These pre-moistened towelettes must be placed in your one-quart bag of liquids.)

8. Makeup corrector sticks help correct little smudges, blotches or "I-can’t sleep-because-I'm-stuck-in-the-center-aisle" circles under the eyes.

9. Cake mascara is a great an alternative when liquids are not allowed. This is the classic "Hollywood" way to darken and define the eyelashes. It comes in a pressed, cake form and can be mixed with water then applied with a firm brush. They recommend curling the lashes first - Paula Dorf or Longcils Boncza brands are favorites.

10. Solid cocoa butter and cotton gloves for a hand treatment (also place in one quart travel bag).

And at the end of it all, Edriss and Landy recommend a good night sleep, a 16-ounce bottle of water and a pair of designer sunglasses so that others will think you're a rock star, not just a fatigued fellow traveler.
