ANCHORAGE, Alaska - More than 200 years ago, rats jumped ship for Rat Island. The muscular Norway rat climbed ashore on the rugged, uninhabited island in far southwestern Alaska in 1780 after a rodent-infested Japanese ship ran aground. It was the first time rats had made it to Alaska.

Home Video (www.homevideo.fm) are Collin Ruffino and David Gross, transplants from the misunderstood landscape of New Orleans, now living in the brooding brownstones of Brooklyn, New York. Here they revel in a self-created world of references to Edward Gorey, Massive Attack, The Brothers Quay, Smashing Pumpkins, and a dusting of Chopin, references that they have been collecting for nearly ten years.
They connected in high school art class in 1997.

FORT WORTH — Something crazy is spreading across Texas, and it may be so destructive that one day it will make Texans actually miss the hated fire ant.
Crazy ants, so named because they move in all directions rather than in a straight line, first surfaced in Houston seven years ago and had previously been confirmed in 14 Southeast Texas counties as far north as Huntsville.
Now the ants have been seen beyond the Houston area, with confirmed sightings in San Antonio and in Jim Hogg County in the Rio Grande Valley.

Woman to be jailed one day for each of 74 dead cats
By Don Markus | don.markus@baltsun.com
A 52-year-old Howard County woman, whose mother was earlier sentenced to six months in jail for abusing cats, must serve a day in jail for each of the 74 cats that died.
Nese Icgoren, of the 7300 block of Swan Point Way in Columbia, told Circuit Court Judge Diane O. Leasure on Friday that she couldn't get her 81-year mother, Ayten Icgoren, to properly care for a small family of cats, then failed to do anything after felines multiplied to well over 100.

It's pretty amazing to me when medications typically given for one thing could theoretically help prevent a completely different disease. Praziquantel is a broad spectrum antihelminthic also given to dogs and cats infected with Tapeworms. If you're interested in lots of scientific jargon, the scientific article can be found here
Giving an inexpensive deworming drug to millions of girls in rural Africa could substantially reduce transmission of the virus that causes AIDS, researchers say.

Here are a few strange and unique fetishes. The reason why I am using the term "abnormal" is because anything that fits in the category of abnormal pyschology is something that is outside the general norm of a society. Please keep in mind that in some African tribes it is NOT abnormal for women to wear multiple rings around their neck in order to extend the neck as long as possible, but in the United States, that kind of behavior is abnormal.
