What's the Difference Between Corned Beef and Pastrami?

After I made corned beef for the first time ever this week, I realized that I knew absolutely nothing about it, other than the fact that it's absolutely delicious. What, exactly, makes it different from that other deli favorite, pastrami? Corned beef and pastrami are both beef cuts that have been cured and cooked. But that's where the similarity ends.

Although brisket is commonly used for both, corned beef can also be made from lean round, while pastrami can also come from navel (plate) and round. Corned beef is first soaked in a salt water brine with pickling spices, then boiled.

The process for pastrami varies widely, but in general, the meat is first cured with a spice rub or soaked in brine. From that point, it's encrusted in peppercorns, then smoked. The beef may be hot-smoked all the way through; if not, it is then steamed or simmered. Were you aware of the difference between the two? Which do you ask for on a reuben?

The Air Jordan 2010 Unveiled

Air Jordan XII White Black
When you see the jordan shoes pictured above, you know it’s part of the Air Jordan legacy, but it’s probably one of the most overlooked models in the vault. They don’t have a name like their regular season counterpart, the ‘Taxi’ and there’s no single moment of dominance they symbolize like the ‘Flu Game’, nor any controversy in their release like the also white ‘Rising Sun’. Despite the apparent lack of history, yours truly likes these best of all the Air Jordan XIIs (12).
I still remember sitting in the wood-paneled den at my best friend’s house on opening night 1996, staring with disbelief at a new red-on-white colourway of the upcoming Jays I had recently seen teased in a Sports Illustrated ad. The Taxis weren’t even out as of this point, so the sight of what the original ‘rising sun’ was a shock (Air Jordan XII marked the first time an Air Jordan released in five colourways during the season). Maybe that’s what compelled me to trade my size 9 Zoom Flight 96s for my seventh-grade classmate’s size 6.5 Twelves during gym class about a month later. I still remember that November night watching TNT and to this day can barely fathom a shoe so amazing that I’d risk breaking my feet to wear them.
With all these vivid memories, you can imagine how personally exciting our latest air jordan shoes Wallpaper is for me. It features the shoe so at home on the road that during that 69-win season that SI depicted a cartoon MJ wearing them while buffing his fingernails in mockery of the competition. You can relive the beginning of the second greatest season in NBA history by making these your new desktop wallpaper thanks to our new jordan shoes news Wallpapers.
tag: Timberland boots,gucci shoes,adidas shoes,air max,Lacoste Shoes,dunk shoes

A Remix of Air Jordan XVII x Air Jordan XVI
I did not expect that more and more players on the court will be wearing Jordan 16. Majority of the players I have spotted wearing Jordan Brand – Air Jordan 16.5 sneaker like Ray Allen, DJ Augustin, Dwyane Wade, and M. Finley, these players.
So, I have researched on the rigorous performance of Air Jordan 16.5 sneake, amazingly I got the reason why these players are seen with this cool kicks. The Air Jordan Shoes 16.5 sneaker only weights 16.0 oz and uni. Blue-black colorway. In terms of cushioning users rate this sneaker 8 out of 10. Forefoot stability, Air Jordan 16.5 got 9 out of 10 ratings, Breathability, the sneaker got 10 out of 10.
The jordan shoes is packed with the best of both worlds in terms of extreme stability and Upper leather performance.

Jordan CP3 III Black Orion Blue
ou may be looking at these and think to yourself, “Yeah, seen ‘em already. So what ” But be aware, these are the the exact same colorway as the images previously seen. Chris Paul’s new signature jordan shoes takes cues from its previous model, but is formed into a profile that’s a bit more conformed to other successful Jordans. The suede medial upper contains a clever ‘CP’ coat of arms, along with the fleur-de-lis, complimenting the French culture in New Orleans. The rest of the upper, white leather, contrasted with black stitching. The sole is built with the geometric hex-pattern to insinuate his Hornet’s team, similar to the honeycomb-like stitch we saw on the Jordan CP3.II. Although the orion blue accents supposedly are taken from the team colors, we’re sure some of you may wish one of these jordan shoes will take on the traditional “Charlottle Hornets” colors that most of us were in love with growing up. We’ll just have to wait and see. Anticipated to drop at Jordandi and House of Hoops on January 2nd.
Inside the Michael Jordan Building
Last week, Jordan Shoes News had the privilege and pleasure of visiting Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. As you can imagine, the experience was a sneakerhead’s dream come true, and despite the overwhelming sensory overload from all the visual stimulation offered by the immaculate Nike campus, we managed to pull ourselves together enough to snap some pictures to bring back for the viewing pleasure of our loyal readers.
As you might know, all of the buildings on campus are named after legendary Nike athletes, so naturally, it didn’t take us long to inquire about checking out the Michael Jordan Building. Upon entering the structure named after the most heralded Nike endorser of them all, you are immediately greeted with an incredible museum-like display, chock full of the most incredible accumulation of Michel Jordan memorabilia that you will likey ever find in one room.
The center of the lobby area is home to two glass display cases that feature the first 16 Air Jordan sneakers, many game-worn, autographed or both. Moving out towards the walls, there are large glass cases on each opposing wall, filled from floor to ceiling with jaw-dropping MJ artifacts. In addition to more signed and game-worn sneakers, the displays feature jerseys, magazine covers and photography, as well as props and mementos from some classic Air Jordan Shoes commercials and campaigns, and even some early prototype samples from the formative years of the iconic line.
Keep reading after the jump for a look at all the wonders contained inside the awe-inspiring Michael Jordan Building display area, and stay tuned for more from our recent trip out to Swoosh HQ.
Check out the New Air Jordan 2010 o all Air Jordan fans out there, this is the best day of your life. Check out the new Air Jordan 2010 with a circle enclosed Jumpman on the side panel that reminds us of AJXII tongues. It is greater with those insignals that are appearing on the right tongue.
The new Air Jordan 2010 comes in black and white upper colorway. The shoe has a red outer sole panel and white midsole. I also personally love the perforated leather toecap of the jordan shoes. I also love the velvety red lining on the shoe opening. NBA Feet Dwyane Wade Air Jordan Shoes
On behalf of the Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program, Dwyane Wade popped into Miami Norland Senior High School on Wednesday to host the ‘Layups for Learning’ event. Five lucky students got the opportunity to sink a shot in the paint and earn some grant cash for their school. Wade spent his day doing his part for the community but still had plenty of energy left to show off his new Air Jordan 16.5 PEs against LeBron and the Cavaliers.
In these photos, we get a good sense of how perfect the nickname ‘Flash’ turns out to be when it’s united with the Heat’s red and yellow signature colours. Wade will likely rock the Air Jordan 2010 when it releases right after we flip the calendar, but you can get some up-close looks at what’s likely to be a standby for the next month or so, thanks to detailed air jordan shoes photos after the jump.
New Alpha Air Jordan 1 Design For Spring 2010
Air Jordan 1 sneaker is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and he is actually treating everyone with its newest design the Alpha Air Jordan 1 Design For Spring 2010. You will definitely love these shoes that will be released by January of 2010. The modern shoes will be a full length of Zoom Air Bag with no swe upper and it comes with an environmentally friendly mesh lining.
I personally love the Red and Black colorway. It comes in a nice suede material but the toecap comes in a perforated leather. I also love the white midsole squeeze in the red outersole of the shoe. The swoosh is in red color together with its shoe laces. The lining of the jordan shoes in its opening is in contrasting black color.
Air Jordan V Jared Jeffries Away PE
New York Knicks forward, Jared Jeffries hasn’t exactly been setting the league ablaze with his play this year. The Knicks are off to a 1-9 start, and despite a lack of substantial playing time in that stretch, Jeffries has been making some noise with his kicks instead. Despite the struggles of Jeffries and his team, he still has his Air Jordan PE’s to take consolation in. Last week, we gave you a look at a fresh pair of Air Jordan 23 PE’s created for Jeffries, and now we turn our attention to a personalized Air Jordan 5 well-suited for Knicks away games. The shoe sports a Black nubuck upper with the traditional Red and Silver accents replaced with some touches of Blue Ribbon and Orange Flash (although it looks more Red in these photos). Keep reading for a look at some more jordan shoes pics and stay tuned for more PE heat from Jared Jeffries.
Reminders from Stephenie Meyer's website

October 5, 2009
Hey. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Stephenie's publishers asked me to remind everyone that there are a few new editions and titles going on sale in the next few days:

The first one actually has been on sale for about three weeks already (I forgot to post a reminder...sorry): The Twilight Saga: New Moon Movie Tie-in. This is no different from the original New Moon except for the cool cover art.

The second goes on sale tomorrow, October 6, 2009: The Twilight Saga: New Moon--The Official Illustrated Movie Companion. I have not seen this book yet, but the Twilight edition was very impressive. It is a great way to get even more excited about the movie (only 45 days left!)

Finally, next week (October 13th) we have two more items going on sale: New Moon Collector's Edition (to match the Twilight Collector's Edition) and The Twilight Journals, both of which would make good gifts, in my opinion.

If at any time in the future you would like to find one of these titles or even one of Stephenie's recommendations, you can go to our Amazon aStore. Everything is in one place, and I do my best to keep it up-to-date.
--Seth

Show of Hands – Season 3 of Dexter Not Fun!

It might be me, but I have the attention span of a small child most times, and the last three episodes of Dexter have not blown up my skirt. Last night’s episode, properly titled, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. And, sleep he did, because the episode was BORING!

It started out on a high note, Dexter relating what he does as a serial killer, with a lion protecting his cubs, but somewhere it all went so blah. We are introduced to Dexter’s victim on a trip to the market where Rita’s daughter, Astor, is talking to a man we learn quickly due to Dexter’s instinct a pedophile. OH, goodie. We get some minor stalking from the perp and from Dexter, but nothing methodical like we are accustomed to.

Jimmy Smit’s character, Miguel continues his creepiness, by overdoing it with Dexter. He is truly trying to be Dexter’s friend, but why? I guess as the season goes along, we will get more clues as to what really is wrong with him. Another victim is found, which clearly signals to Dexter and Miguel there is another killer on the lose that is not Freebo, like the police department still thinks. Some more boring scenes occur with Deb, Quinn, and Rita. More baby news, with Dexter telling Deb about the pregnancy. There was an uncomfortable yoga scene. Some bathroom pot smoking from Deb’s informant. How many episodes left, before she sleeps with him?

Dexter leads Deb almost literally by the hand to Teagan (Freebo’s dead girlfriend). The police always a step behind Dexter start look for Freebo at her house. And, Dexter tells Miguel of his plan to bury Freebo is a cemetery. All wrapped up in a neat little bow, right? We finally get our kill and it’s this boring strangulation. Really? That’s it, he had pictures of your kids, Dex! Come on!

Overall, once again the episode lacked any fire. I’m really missing Doakes this season. It might not be him, but there is definitely something missing. It appears they are making Dexter BE normal instead of pretending to be normal. What did you guys think? Once again, who is this new serial killer? I still like Smits character for these new killings? Or, is it Smit’s other brother?

Thoughts, groans, moans? Conspiracy theories? Anyone?

And next week:
"ALL IN THE FAMILY"

After a botched marriage proposal, Dexter has to figure out how to convince Rita that he is looking for more than a convenient merger of finances and fatherhood. But Deb’s case of a woman’s murdered fiancée offers hope for Dexter in strange ways. Meanwhile, Miguel’s brother, Ramon, is going off the rails in the hunt for their little brother Oscar’s murderer. Unfortunately, Oscar’s murderer was killed by Dexter Morgan, and that’s something he desperately wants to keep secret.

Dexter Season 3 Episode 3 Tonight!

Last week Dexter proves he needs to return to Harry’s code immediately, because he has become sloopy. And Rita is annoying the hell out of me, but the show must go on.
"THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT"

While grocery shopping with Rita and the kids, Dexter comes across a fellow predator. But this one is a pedophile. After the pedophile is seen talking with Astor, Dexter must decide if he fits The Code. Meanwhile, Debra has a new homicide to solve, a mysteriously skinned Jane Doe that they like Freebo for. But Dexter knows that Freebo is not the culprit, so he must find a way to help Debra identify their murder victim, thus proving that Freebo didn’t do the crime. While doing this, Dexter learns that Miguel Prado wants Dexter to be his friend. But just how smart is it for Dexter, a serial killer, to befriend an Assistant District Attorney?

Dexter Episode 2 ‘Finding Freebo’ Recap and Next Week’s Sneak Peak

Last night’s episode of Dexter was “Finding Freebo” and just as suspected we found him alright. We settle right back in where we left off last week, Dexter on the hunt for Freebo sans Harry’s code. And, we have Dexter grappling with the bombshell of Rita being pregnant and what that means for his life. I don’t know about you guys, but the inner retrospective’s got a tad tedious to me.

The most horrific moment to me was the whole scene in the doctor’s office. Too many germy little kids running around, this had me thinking the same things, Dexter was why on earth anyone would have children. And, the overall question of the night, is it nature or nurture that turns a kid into a sociopath like Dexter? On the flip side we have Deb struggling with the fact she has no life outside of her job, none whatsoever. The fact of this was driven home by the internal affairs chick. Telling Deb to take of scrapbooking. Yes, Deb take up scrapbooking, I can’t stand you, go away.

And, might I add, I don’t know what Officer Quinn did, but he’s hot. More scenes with him, please. Rita has decided to keep the baby. Rita has always gotten on my nerves, because she is the clingy and needy type. But, for some reason she is overly annoying this season so far. The writers need to pull back on her character. Meanwhile, Dex finds out Teagan was a sorority girl at one time, who ended up trading sex for drugs with Freebo. Nice. Eventually tracking Freebo to the late Teagan’s house. Of course, Freebo meets his demise. Thanks Dexter, but Prado (Jimmy Smits) has also tracked Freebo down at Teagan’s house. Busted! Dexter tells Prado, that he had gotten information on Freebo and after a fight to death, he (Dexter) was forced to him. And, Prado fell for it.

Overall, this episode was just ok. I know we are only two episodes into this season, but something’s missing to me from the show. I’m not enjoying Dexter san’s Harry’s code at all, I’m not moved by the baby drama, and something needs to be done with Deb’s storyline quick. I think if it’s supposed to revolve around Quinn, they need to up the ante a little and fast. So, who is this new serial killer? I told you guys that is wasn’t Freebo. I still like Smits character for these new killings? Or, is it Smit’s other brother?

Thoughts, groans, moans? Conspiracy theories? Anyone, Anyone at all?

And next week:
"THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT"

While grocery shopping with Rita and the kids, Dexter comes across a fellow predator. But this one is a pedophile.
35) Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan is the former James Bond star who has also appeared in movies such as The Thomas Crown Affair.

Introduction

The Irish actor Pierce Brosnan almost achieved the impossible and filled Sean Connery's 007 shoes. He may have fallen just short but he has cemented his place in movie history.

Scores
Looks: 74
Body: 71
Lifestyle: 85
Career: 80
Overall: 75

Biography
Pierce Brosnan was born in Drogheda, Ireland on May 16 1953. He made his screen debut in 1979 on the tv show Murphy's Stroke but is was his role in Remington Steele three years later that made him famous. His performance man made Pierce one of the hottest actors in the UK.

His Sexiest Moments
1. Every minute of his four outings as James Bond. Only Sean Connery was sexier as 007.

2. As master their Max Burdett in the film After the Sunset (2004). Pierce and Salma Hayek sizzle in the Caribbean heat.

3. In the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair as he slowly seduces Rene Russo into bed.

Three Things You Never Knew
1. Pierce has a prominent scar above his top lip, a souvenir from the making of the movie Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) after he was accidentally hit by one of the stuntmen.

2. On December 28th 1991, his first wife, Cassandra Harris, died in his arms after a long battle against ovarian cancer.

3. He was originally selected to play 007 in 1986, but he couldn't get out of his contract with the TV series Remington Steele. The role went to to Timothy Dalton and Pierce had to wait another nine years before stepping into those famous spy shoes
Looks
The former 007 star is almost as sexy as the original James Bond Sean Connery. The Irish charmer’s piercing eyes and wonderful features have most women feeling shaken and stirred.

Body
Pierce's body looks almost as good as it did when he was a twenty year old actor trying to make his way in the world. Obviously he's lost some of his youthful tone and definition but most men would love to look this good in their fifties.

Lifestyle
Pierce is one of life's true gentlemen. If you manage to land yourself a husband like him, you're a very lucky lady. He is charming, amiable and totally devoted to his family. Despite what you may think, it can be difficult being a celebrity, particularly one as famous as Pierce. But he just takes it all in his stride and gets on with the important things in his life - his lovely wife and kids.

Career
Although Pierce has had great success with movies such as The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) and After the Sunset (2004), he will be forever remembered as the best James Bond after Sean Connery. Injecting much needed life into the role, Pierce has re-established the character as the most popular movie hero of our time.

This Day in History: April 15th

At 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the British ocean liner Titanic sinks into the North Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and crew, had struck an iceberg two and half hours before.

On April 10, the RMS Titanic, one of the largest and most luxurious ocean liners ever built, departed Southampton, England, on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic was designed by the Irish shipbuilder William Pirrie and built in Belfast, and was thought to be the world's fastest ship. It spanned 883 feet from stern to bow, and its hull was divided into 16 compartments that were presumed to be watertight. Because four of these compartments could be flooded without causing a critical loss of buoyancy, the Titanic was considered unsinkable. While leaving port, the ship came within a couple of feet of the steamer New York but passed safely by, causing a general sigh of relief from the passengers massed on the Titanic's decks. On its first journey across the highly competitive Atlantic ferry route, the ship carried some 2,200 passengers and crew.

After stopping at Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, to pick up some final passengers, the massive vessel set out at full speed for New York City. However, just before midnight on April 14, the RMS Titanic failed to divert its course from an iceberg and ruptured at least five of its hull compartments. These compartments filled with water and pulled down the bow of the ship. Because the Titanic's compartments were not capped at the top, water from the ruptured compartments filled each succeeding compartment, causing the bow to sink and the stern to be raised up to an almost vertical position above the water. Then the Titanic broke in half, and, at about 2:20 a.m. on April 15, stern and bow sank to the ocean floor.

Because of a shortage of lifeboats and the lack of satisfactory emergency procedures, more than 1,500 people went down in the sinking ship or froze to death in the icy North Atlantic waters. Most of the 700 or so survivors were women and children. A number of notable American and British citizens died in the tragedy, including the noted British journalist William Thomas Stead and heirs to the Straus, Astor, and Guggenheim fortunes.

One hour and 20 minutes after Titanic went down, the Cunard liner Carpathia arrived. The survivors in the lifeboats were brought aboard, and a handful of others were pulled out of the water. It was later discovered that the Leyland liner Californian had been less than 20 miles away at the time of the accident but had failed to hear the Titanic's distress signals because its radio operator was off duty.

Announcement of details of the tragedy led to outrage on both sides of the Atlantic. In the disaster's aftermath, the first International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea was held in 1913. Rules were adopted requiring that every ship have lifeboat space for each person on board, and that lifeboat drills be held. An International Ice Patrol was established to monitor icebergs in the North Atlantic shipping lanes. It was also required that ships maintain a 24-hour radio watch

On September 1, 1985, a joint U.S.-French expedition located the wreck of the Titanic lying on the ocean floor at a depth of about 13,000 feet. The ship was explored by manned and unmanned submersibles, which shed new light on the details of its sinking.

Factory Girl

Factory Girl (2006)
Directed by
George Hickenlooper

Writing credits:
(in alphabetical order)
Aaron Richard Golub story
Captain Mauzner screenplay
Captain Mauzner story
Simon Monjack story

I have been wanting to see this movie forever now because I have always had a fascination with Andy Warhol and The Factory; Edie Sedgwick specifically because she is so tragic. This flick has been on my Netflix queue forEVER, status - Very Long Wait. I recently canceled my netflix membership (because they charged me four times last month and it took Shawn 4 hours to get it sorted out... ) so I finally had an excuse to order it through my cable's on demand service.

Anyway, to the movie. I really loved it. I wasn't sold on Sienna prior to seeing this movie, but I thought she did quite well in the role. I loved the way the film was shot; sometimes in black and white, sometimes in grainy color, sometimes in psychedelic color... It was beautiful. The story was told in a way I would have imagined it, and at an hour and 40 minutes, it's doesn't drag out in the least. My biggest complaint is that there wasn't more Hayden Christensen in the film, because he was absolutely gorgeous as Bob Dylan. :swoon:

I completely recommend seeing it if you haven't already.

If you are unfamiliar with Edie Sedgwick, here's a bit from Wikipedia:

In January 1965, Sedgwick met artist and avant-garde filmmaker Andy Warhol at Lester Persky's apartment. She began going to The Factory regularly in March of 1965 with her friend, Chuck Wein. During one of those visits, Warhol was filming his interpretation of the novel, A Clockwork Orange, aptly titled, Vinyl. Despite Vinyl's all-male cast, Warhol put Sedgwick in the movie. She also made a small cameo appearance in another Warhol film, Horse, when she and fellow Factory regular Ondine entered towards the end of the film. Although Sedgwick's appearances in both films were brief, they generated so much interest that Warhol decided to create a vehicle in which she would star.

The first of those films, Poor Little Rich Girl, was originally conceived as part of a series featuring Edie called The Poor Little Rich Girl Saga. The series was to include Poor Little Rich Girl, Restaurant, Face, and Afternoon. Filming of Poor Little Rich Girl started in March of 1965 in Sedgwick's apartment. The first reel shows Sedgwick waking up, ordering coffee and orange juice, and putting on her makeup in silence with only an Everly Brothers record playing. Due to a problem with the camera lens, the footage on the first reel is completely out of focus. The second reel consists of Sedgwick smoking cigarettes, talking on the telephone, trying on clothes, and describing how she had spent her entire inheritance in six months.

On April 30, 1965, Warhol took Sedgwick, Chuck Wein and Gerard Malanga to the opening of his exhibit at the Sonnabend Gallery in Paris. Upon returning to New York City, Warhol asked his scriptwriter, Ron Tavel, to write a script for Sedgwick. The result was Kitchen, starring Sedgwick, Rene Ricard, Roger Trudeau, Donald Lyons and Elecktrah. After Kitchen, Chuck Wein replaced Ron Tavel as writer and assistant director for the filming of Beauty No. 2, in which Sedgwick appeared with Gino Piserchio. Beauty No. 2 premiered at the Film-Makers' Cinematheque at the Astor Place Playhouse on July 17.

Although Warhol's films were not generally a commercial success and were rarely seen outside The Factory, as Sedgwick's popularity grew mainstream media outlets began reporting on her appearances in Warhol's underground films and her unusual fashion sense that consisted of black leotards, mini dresses, and large chandelier earrings. Sedgwick also cut her hair short and colored her naturally brown hair with silver spray creating a similar look to the wigs Warhol wore. Warhol christened her his "Superstar" and both were photographed together at various social outings.

Throughout 1965, Sedgwick and Warhol continued to make films together, namely, Outer and Inner Space, Prison, Lupe and Chelsea Girls. However, by late 1965, Sedgwick and Warhol's relationship had deteriorated and Sedgwick requested that Warhol no longer show any of her films. She asked that the footage she filmed for Chelsea Girls be removed. Sedgwick's footage was replaced with footage of Nico with colored lights projected on her face and The Velvet Underground music playing in the background. The edited footage of Edie in Chelsea Girls would eventually become the film Afternoon.
