Steal of the Day: Z Gallerie Soho Pavilion

Z Gallerie's Soho Pavilion ($399.99, reduced from $599.99) is water- and fade-resistant, so you can host a chic party outdoors rain or shine. But, would you blame me for wanting to set up this chic tent indoors? I'm imagining a cross between Nick Olsen's tented workspace and interior designer Marjorie Skouras's oversize indoor topiary bedroom. We don't all have yard space, but this tasseled, Greek-key item could create a loungey, magical space in any room at least 10 feet in height, depth, and width. Just throw in some sisal or a Moroccan-style rug, plants, a hanging lantern, a few floor pillows, and a sofa like west elm's Overlapping Squares Daybed, and you're done. So cozy, yet so transportive and chic!

Cool Idea: Round Dice

Conventional wisdom would suggest that the Z Gallerie Round Dice Set ($17) is just for show. Clearly, the spheres would always tilt and roll, making it impossible for one number to be chosen. Well, not exactly. The round pieces have a mini-weight inside of them, which exposes only one arrangement of dots each time it's rolled. Suddenly Yahtzee just got a whole lot cooler.

Love It or Hate It? Z Gallerie Metallic Skull

I've been into the skull trend for a year now, but ever since I saw this AT:NY house tour, my love for three-dimensional skulls was solidified. I'm not a fan of Hot Topic-esque skull motifs or patterns, but realistic shapes, like Dan Akroyd's Crystal Head vodka or this shimmery Z Gallerie Metallic Skull ($24.95) have me head over heels.

Where Would You Decorate With This Sequin Lobster Pillow?

Z Gallerie says their Sequin Lobster Pillow ($39.95) "redefines rock lobster, which is what most people equate with scrumptious, edible crustacean." I have to agree, and say that I've never seen lobster look so glam. It'd be cheeky in a summer house in Maine, or perhaps a seafood restaurant. But I wouldn't serve it up in my own home.

Love It or Hate It? Z Gallerie Mode Pillows

While I do understand that wide belts have been "in" for the last couple of years, I don't think I'd want one "in" my home, particularly on a pillow like this. For those of you who don't speak French, this Z Gallerie Mode Pillow is named "Mode" because that word means "in fashion." Do you think belted pillows are fashionable?

Ask Casa: Silver Striated Walls

I'm wondering if you can help me. I want my bedroom walls to look like this silvery/striated color on the Z Gallerie Borghese Chest ($799). Is paint an option or must I find this wallpaper? Can you help a clumsy DIYer?

Hi Boatygirl,
I wouldn't recommend attempting to achieve this look with paint, unless you're a professional. The antique finish of the mirrored dresser would be difficult to replicate (unless you had mirrored walls), and metallic paints are notoriously unsatisfying if used on a large canvas like an entire wall. That said, I think your best option is to hang wallpaper, or hire a professional who specializes in faux finishes to paint your walls.
When redecorating her assistant's apartment, Ivanka Trump chose to dress the living area in a wallpaper that's the spitting image of the dresser you have your eye on. She used the Silver Pony Skin paper ($100 a roll) from New Orleans-based Flavor Paper. If the price is too steep for you, consider wallpapering a single wall as a focal point, such as the one behind your bed.

Desire/Acquire: Black Glass Chandeliers

If only my wallet were as big as my eyes, I could have everything I desire. Unfortunately, for many of us style fiends, abstaining from shopping is simply not in the cards. So, in these troubling economic times, perhaps the solution to our financial woes isn't to resist, but to acquire at a lower price. Take this DWR Murano Glass Chandelier ($3,200). I adore its delicate, scroll-like glass filigree, and its scale and moody color would make it an instant focal point in my dining room. But, as much as I'd love to, I'm not about to shell out over three grand for the thing, especially when I know there's a more affordable option.

At a fraction of the price, the Z Gallerie Calais Chandelier ($349) has that same slick black shimmer and curlicue scroll work, and would look equally stunning over my dining table. Now, I'll just do my best to put those savings in my savings.

This Just In: Christina Aguilera to Ditch Her Digs

Rumor has it, according to Real Estalker that Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman have put their 5,411-square-foot, 5-bedroom, 7-bath Hollywood Hills home on the market for nearly $8 million. Aguilera reportedly purchased the Steve Hermann-designed digs for $5 million in 2003, which was her third house at the tender age of 22. The pad boasts, "living and dining rooms, a screening lounge with wet bar, a 25-foot waterfall, and unobstructed views," and is decked in classic Hermann style, head to toe in neutral tones, full of fur throws and animal-hide rugs, and sleek and oh-so-Hollywood with black leather chairs throughout. I'm actually impressed; I expected "X-tina's" digs to bit more Z Gallerie meets b-baller (i.e. wildly tacky), and it's actually architecturally and visually intriguing. However, I'm baffled by the cowhide LC4 Chaise Lounge in the bathroom, and the closet full of white buttondowns. But, I guess that's just staging. Take a look and tell me what you think.
