DIY: CB2 Ornament Wreath

The super stylists at CB2 DIY'd a stunning, colorful holiday wreath using ornaments from their holiday collection. The wreath can definitely be re-created with any standard ornaments, but I love the nontraditional colors and various shapes on this wreath. To make it, you'll need strong stiff wire to bend into a ring (like aluminum wire gauge 20 or a wire hanger), 30-90 ornaments depending on the size you want, strong tape or pliers, and ribbon. Here are the steps from CB2:

String one ornament at a time onto the wire ring, alternating colors, using smaller ones to fill in the gaps.
When the ring is completely covered in ornaments, fasten the ends together.
Use a ribbon to cover the spot where the ends are fastened together, and hang!

Tip: Best not to go too large in diameter as the wreath could become too heavy and stretch out.

Su Casa: A Fall Wreath

Su Casa member Hippiecowgirl recently spent some time decorating her home for Fall. Among other decorations, she made this Fall wreath for her front door. The seasonal decoration is made from a simple grapevine wreath, some silk flowers, and ribbon. I love how versatile her wreath design is. It's really the color of the flowers and ribbon she chose that make it appropriate for the Fall, but you could always switch up the colors for Christmas, Mardi Gras, Fourth of July, or whatever you're celebrating! You can use a hot glue gun to adhere the flowers, or simply pin them on. Then, when the next season comes along, you can replace the flowers for a different theme. What do you think of this wreath? It's cute, right? Have you ever made your own wreath?

DIY: Paper Wreath

Whether you need quick, pretty decorations for a dinner party or a child's birthday, this paper wreath will fit the bill. By customizing your paper color, you can make wreaths appropriate for any holiday or occasion. This wreath is also very cheap to make (you can get all supplies for under $10 if you already own a hole punch and glue gun), and will only take an hour or less to complete!

What You'll Need

A Styrofoam wreath form
Some colorful paper, or a stack of coordinated paint chips
A hole-punch
A hot glue gun

Here's how, from Craft Stylish:

Working around the outer edge of my Styrofoam wreath form, hot glue an assortment of colored paper disks in place.
Once you finish the outer edge, add a second course of disks to the inner edge, again, gluing them in place.
Add a third tier of colored disks so that it slightly overlaps the outer course below it.
Once you finish the outer edge, add a second course of disks to the inner edge, again, gluing them in place.
Add a fourth and final course of disks to completely cover the wreath form and hide it from view.
For a holiday-appropriate touch, add some 1/2-inch, tricolored "berries" (punched from red, fuchsia, and burgundy paper) along with a wide ribbon for hanging your wreath.

DIY: Halloween Ribbon Wreath

You might not be the type to go all out this Halloween with cobwebs, fog machines, and yard decorations that heckle at passersby. But you can still be festive with a simple yet darkly gothic wreath. Wreaths are the ultimate non-decoration for any festivity; they're not fussy or complicated but they do give your front door some holiday curb appeal. To make this black grosgrain ribbon wreath from The Long Thread, all you'll need is a 12-inch foam wreath form, 24 yards of 1 1/4-inch black grosgrain ribbon (yes, that's a lot of ribbon!), scissors, and a measuring tape. Here's how:

To begin, cut your ribbon into 45 to 50 16-inch pieces, and one piece of 48-inch ribbon.
Tie one piece of the 16-inch ribbon in a messy knot around the wreath form by folding right over left twice, pulling in the opposite direction.
Continue this until you've tied all the small pieces of ribbon, pushing them close together in between.
The wreath should be full; if not, cut and tie more small pieces of ribbon.
Now, tie and knot the long piece of ribbon around the wreath, leave a long loop and tie another knot at the other end.
If there are any frayed edges trim them, and make sure the ribbon pieces are relatively the same length.
Now, hang the wreath!

Come November, many people worldwide will hang wreaths on their front doors, celebrating the holiday season. But, who says wreaths should be reserved Christmas? One San Francisco city dweller decided to celebrate this year's Olympic games by making and hanging their very own set of Olympic rings . . . in wreath form! The symbolic five intertwined rings were reimagined with plastic fruits in the iconic colors white, red, blue, green, yellow, and black. Does your home have Olympic spirit? What other ideas for decorating like a champion do you have? At the very least, one of you must own an Olympic poster . . .
