Before and After: Garage Makeover

What do you do with an old garage that you never use except to store your bike and some tools? Well, if you've got a tiny backyard and are low on "outdoor" space, and you're Suzanne Dimma, host of HGTV's The Style Dept. and home design director of wish, you transform it into a chic indoor/outdoor room. With a little green paint, a pair of natural fiber rugs, a trio of butterfly chairs, a vintage dolly, some plants, and a fan, she transformed the unused garage, making the house's outdoor space feel three times as big. Talk about Summer Style! I'm really impressed with the transformation that a few simple furnishings has achieved! I guess it helps to have a garage that's nearly empty; I've been to many that are overloaded with junk and used as storage (not for cars), which would be a major task in itself to clear out. Before and After: A Trashy Table

Ruth Alves, the associate art director of Wish, found this table discarded behind her old office, and decided it was worth taking home. A can of semigloss white paint on its butcher block-esque top transformed it into a Saarinen look-alike perfect next to a chaise as a coffee table. To see the results, read more.

I love its heavy, mushroom-like shape. I think I might actually like it — gasp! — more than an authentic Saarinen table. What do you think? Have you found anything living room worthy in the trash? Are you a dumpster-diving diva?

Love It or Hate It? Cardboard Fireplace

I spotted this Cardboard Fireplace ($24) at Urban Outfitters and I kind of love it. For one, the bricks remind me of the cardboard bricks I used to play with when I was a kid. And two, I love a good faux fireplace - my "crackling fire" DVD plays on repeat in the Winter. But I do wish this fireplace had a prettier mantel, like a white one with ornate moldings. What do you think?

Growing up I was always interested in decorating, but I had a fleeting sense of style that changed as frequently as my taste in food. My parents let me choose my décor, which I loved. Would You Buy a Sheepskin Throw?

Crave Worthy Creations member HannahNicole is throwing activism to the wind in favor of a sheepskin throw:

The animal activist inside me is screaming "No!" - but regardless, I'm absolutely in love with this sheepskin ($449, originally $899). It would be the perfect home accent when I'm cozy by the fireplace, so soft and plush. I know it's wrong, but I can't help it. I'll take one for Christmas, please.

Nice and New: Fresh Finds at Ferm Living

One of my favorite wallpaper retailers, Ferm Living, has a few new things in store that I'm really loving. First of all, I think the way this Sewing Kit Wall Sticker ($57.50) is staged is absolutely hilarious. I think it would be clever to use it around a window or doorway in your home, especially one that doesn't have a lot of molding. See a few other new things when you read more.

I'm really digging the graphic, prismatic pattern of the new Monroe Wallpaper ($126.50). The black and gold have a really midcentury vibe, so I'd like to see it in other colors. But I think this would look great in a man's home office or small powder room with a statement-making chandelier.

I also absolutely adore the pattern and the palette of the new Peacock Pillow ($110). I only wish it complemented the colors in my home.

And last but certainly not least, the Tree Bomb Thermo Mug ($33) is so glam and hip. I'd use it to store jewelry or knickknacks, or as a votive holder.

Fall Style: Marc Jacobs's Halloween Window Display

Leave it to Marc Jacobs to make Halloween décor chic, humorous, and pumpkin-free. Strolling through San Francisco, I stumbled upon his window display and I fell absolutely in love with his pink cow ghost. In her oversize coat and pink skin, the mannequin looks a bit tortured, too. His painted paper moon looks quite realistic, as does his flying tissue bat. I only wish I had room in my foyer to spook the trick-or-treaters with a mooing ghost.
