US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice knows how to spend time with VIPs such as Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos: she does so in the comfort of a wingback chair.
Wingback, or wing chairs, are high-backed, upholstered easy chairs whose panels, or "wings," project forward from the sides of the back and curve downward to meet the roll arms. Originally, the wings were designed to block drafts in old homes, and to protect ladies' skin from a fireplace's heat.

While I do think the zebra trend is pretty played out at this point, and I'm certainly not keen on animal hide rugs, I find myself pleasantly surprised by the Horchow Sunflower Zebra Chair ($2,199). Not only does the winged accent chair look super comfortable and have great lines, but it's incredibly cheerful in its sunny zebra pattern. And you know how I love nailhead trim.

I've had the Anthropologie Spindle Wingback Chair ($1,300, reduced from $2,500) burned into my mind ever since it first made its debut. Actually, I'd come across the spindle/turned wood print in Ilse Crawford's portfolio and emailed her personally to find out where I could get my hands on the fabric. In case you're not familiar, Ilse is the founding editor of Elle Decoration and also a very talented interior designer.

Growing up, I used the word "den" to describe my family's hangout room with a TV and a fireplace, and "living room" to describe our parlor-like room, which was used rarely, and when it was, for cocktail parties. It always seemed insensible to me to have a room you never use, and I vouched to make the most of my space when I had the option. This owner of this North London living room seems to really get it.

I've long admired Minneapolis artist Amy Rice's fantastic artwork, and when I ran across photos from her collaboration with artist and textile designer Terrence Payne, "Nest," I had to share them with you. Collaborating with Sotheby's real estate group, Rice and Payne transformed a historic Minneapolis home into an artistic wonderland, layering furniture and home accents with their imagery and patterns.
I'm particularly taken with the over-the-top eccentricity of the Fuzzy Ball chair.

When I moved in with my fiancé, I had some artwork and furniture that he simply refused to have moved into our house, citing them as either too colorful or girly. And on his end, there was some furniture that was too dull and bachelor pad-esque for my tastes. So, to appease each other, we had to get rid of those items.
