Get Ready For Summer With Eskayel's Pool Collection

Eskayel just introduced its Poolside Collection, a collection of patterns that are now available in fabric by the yard, wallpaper, pillows, and baskets. I'm in love with all of the patterns in the new collection, which are all based on designer and founder Shanan Campanaro's paintings.

Decorating With: Kelly Green

While kelly green is a great color to decorate with year-round, it's particularly appropriate to celebrate the shamrock shade right now. Any St. Patrick's Day reveler would be happy to add one of these pretty green pieces to their home.

One of my absolute favorite pieces is the Hang On Honey Pendant Lamp ($350, top row, middle). From Danish designer Niels Bak Rasmussen, the lamp rocks a retro vibe, while the bright green varnished shade makes it pop against a white ceiling. The minimalist designed shade hangs directly on a bulb, which is held in place with silicon knobs.

For a fun way to showcase your fruits or fresh berries, pick up the Farmer's Market Basket ($14, bottom row, middle). It may look like your typical cardboard berry basket, but this version is made from stoneware, which has been cast from real containers.

If the shade is too much for you, add just a hint to it with the Eskayel Festival Feast Wallpaper ($475, top row, left). Mixing shades of green, white, yellow, and black, the wallpaper is based on imagery from designer and Eskayel founder Shanan Capanaro's paintings. House Tour: A Visit to Muralist and Wallpaper Designer Alix Soubiran's Los Feliz Home

When Parisian artist Alix Soubiran, the founder and creative force behind wallpaper company Princes & Crows, first discovered the Los Angeles neighborhood of Los Feliz, she knew that she'd found her perfect spot in the sprawling metropolis. Alix told me, "I felt I could live happily in LA when I discovered Los Feliz. It is an eclectic and vibrant community with charming houses in a green and hilly neighborhood. It is also the home of coyotes, skunks, squirrels, and hummingbirds. I am able to walk to the magazine stand, have a croissant at Figaro, go to Blue Rooster Art Supplies, get lost in time at Skylight Books, and watch a movie at the Los Feliz 3. It is like living in a village."

Extensive renovation of a Los Feliz bungalow, which Alix describes as "mid-century California meets 18th-century France," has provided the perfect home for Alix, her boyfriend Joe Mauceri, their daughter Monica-Moonshine, and their rabbit Mr. Pikapou.

A Study in Contrasts: Dark Wallpaper and Poppy Pendants

In the dreariest days of Winter, sometimes you need a major pop of color to lift your spirits. Whether that color comes in the form of a bright bouquet of roses or a smashing new pendant light, it's a perfect way to shake off the mid-February doldrums.

I love the way that these warm red seat covers and sunshine-hued pendant lamp add a lovely contrast to the muted snowflake pattern of the wallpaper in this dining room. Would you believe that the cool table is simply an Ikea base that's had a more luxe tabletop added to it? What a great, simple DIY we should all try!

Contrast is key in making these admittedly disparate elements work. Don't fight it - embrace the different elements completely. To get you started, I've rounded up some dark and moody wallpaper and some admittedly exuberant pendant lamps. Which pairing is your favorite?

Spotted: Mirage Charcoal Wallpaper on Once Upon a Time

A fitting reference for a show about modern day fairy-tale characters, we couldn't take our eyes off of the enchanted forest wallpaper spotted in Once Upon a Time. The print's smokey hues pair perfectly with the pops of chartreuse paint, caramel-colored banquettes, and checkered floors on set.

As the episode title references, it's all about the thrill of the hunt, and we were delighted to discover the source of this enchanting woodland print. Hailing from Graham & Brown, the Mirage wallpaper design comes in five shades ranging from plum to mustard. Usually, I'd skip the neutrals in lieu of more colorful options, but after seeing the fun color combinations on the Once Upon a Time set, I think I'm sold on the charcoal!

Don't Be Afraid to Play With Scale

In a recent interview on Dering Hall, Los Angeles-based designer Peter Dunham shared his thoughts on his line Hollywood at Home and offered excellent decorating tips.

One of my favorite tips from Dunham concerns scale - and the fact that we should consider it more carefully when decorating. Scale is just as important as pattern and color when decorating a space.

Dunham says,

In a high-ceilinged room, use an oversized chandelier. De-electrify it and just use it with candles so it becomes a piece of sculpture rather than a glaring light fixture, and it anchors the space. In a small room, choose a bold, big-pattern print and cover everything in it, the French way: walls, curtains, upholstery, et cetera. It gives the room vibrancy and glamor. Also, use large, but fewer, pieces in a small room-like a sofa that may seem too big-so it feels luxurious. In a large room, use smaller-scale pieces to create several areas and bring the space more to human scale.

I love the way that Dunham plays with scale in the room above, using a bold patterned print for the walls and matching sofa. It's an important lesson to remember when redecorating a room - keep scale a playful, and important, consideration.
