I'm so used to seeing fences and boring view-blocking gates in residential neighborhoods, so I was particularly thrilled when I strolled by this house over the holiday weekend and spotted its chalkboard. Passersby are free to offer up a message for others to read. I'm kind of attached to the one left here.

Even though we buy candy, put out a jack-o'-lantern, and turn on the porch lights, we've only received a few trick-or-treaters in the past four years at our home. In a Q&A in the October issue of Metropolitan Home, Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that her favorite hotel is The George V in Paris. And I can't really fault her for the choice. The hotel, an eight-story landmark 1928 building, offers 245 guest rooms, nearly one-quarter of which are suites.
