Steal of the Day: Viva Terra Tansu Storage Chest

While Asian interior design is too specific for my aesthetic, I've always loved Tansu chests, traditional Japanese chests handcrafted from fine woods, often with elaborate metal hardware. I've been on the hunt for a Tansu for years that is discreet enough to blend with both my modern and Eastern furnishings, and I think I've found it. The Viva Terra Tansu Storage Chest ($423-807, reduced from $489-949) has absolutely stunning, serif-like, C-shaped handles, and its plantation-grown kiri wood is very subdued. It would be great for storing bulky Winter blankets, or to hold a hefty television and use as media storage. What do you think?

Made from reclaimed railroad tie wood with a sturdy, waxed metal frame, the Viva Terra Railroad Tie Dining Table and Chairs ($278-1,468) is a beautiful set for a casual, rustic home, or an eat-in kitchen if you have a separate dining room. I love its slender form and x-shaped base. The table top and chair backs, with original weathered markings, exude a sense of history that's much more interesting than anything you'd see in a showroom. I'd pair the dining table with a different set of chairs, perhaps something more comfortable for winding, conversation-filled dinners. What do you think?

The tree-branch trend may be giving way to birch and other motifs, but I still appreciate a lovely tree-inspired accent. Especially one that's sleek and metallic rather than brown and burly; even better if it's on sale.

Steal of the Day: Viva Terra Porcelain Branch Teapot

Even if you're a coffee person, the Viva Terra Porcelain Branch Teapot ($34, reduced from $69) is so woodsy and whimsically beautiful, I'd endorse using it just for decoration. Or, you can cut the stems of your favorite bouquet short, and fill it for a fresh, Spring-y centerpiece. It's true, the cream and sugar set is sold out, but I think the Michael Aram Twig Sugar and Creamer Set ($40) would work marvelously with it. I think maybe this is what Charlotte Moss was referring to when she said that, "Decorating a table is one of life's basic pleasures."

Crave Worthy: VivaTerra Railroad Tie Dining Table

I've been coveting this Gustavian Bed ($1995 for a queen frame) for months now. Its combination of simplicity, elegance, and sturdy craftsmanship makes it seem like the perfect compromise for a couple who are looking for a classical gender-neutral bed. According to VivaTerra's description, this bed was inspired by Sweden's King Gustav's visit to France about 250 years ago. The king returned to his Scandinavian country obsessed with ornate French neoclassical design, which was then re-interpreted with a more streamlined Swedish design sensibility. This bed is made from reclaimed Douglas fir that's up to a century old, which makes this new piece look like a lavish antique.
