It's no secret that all-white rooms have a relaxing effect. But throw natural materials, well-loved hardwood floors, worn upholstery, and a collection of vintage and antique accessories and furnishings into the mix, and what you have is a home that's not concerned with the latest and greatest, but is simply content as is. Get the Look: Schoolhouse Style

My lecture hall days may be over, but I'm still loving the industrial schoolhouse aesthetic of this office styled by Canadian magazine editor, stylist, and decorator Margot Austin. From the galvanized metal file cabinet to the linen grain sack pillow, every item seems to have a history. The black/metal desk and sunburst mirrors are a bit more contemporary, which keeps the room from looking too much like a dusty old library. These Vintage Animal Napkin Rings ($24 for four) on Etsy will save you $48 on your dinner table décor, and are equally cute. The chicken, piggy, rabbit, and duck have country flair and are more true to form than Adler's modern napkin rings, but they're too sweet not to love!

Cool Idea: 1930s Vintage Seltzer Pendant Lamps

I've seen pendant lamp shades made from sugar and flour canisters, as well as corrugated cardboard, plastic tupperware containers, and measuring tape rolls, among with many other alternative materials. Though the look of retro food storage containers may not jive with the aesthetic of my home, it never ceases to inspire me, and I always look forward to seeing more of its kind.
In the case of these Russell Johnson Vintage Seltzer Pendant Lamps ($395), which are cut from 1930s Argentine seltzer bottles, I'm once again impressed with a clever re-purposing of an old item. I think the re-imagined silver bottles are subtle enough to incorporate into any home, without shouting "Look at me! I'm retro and reused!" They execute a charming nod to the past, but fortunately not with avocado green or mustard yellow florals.

While this sprawling, comfy home seems like a mellow country abode, it's actually located in South London. That doesn't mean that it's without rural amenities such as chicken coop and garden, though. While the exterior is certainly fun and funky, the interior continues the country vibe with a lived-in arts and crafts style and fun vintage furniture finds.
