If you read my November must haves, you know that this month I'll be giving you tips, advice, and ideas for adding color to your home. As part of these "Color Theory" posts, I'm going to focus on different ranges of color each week. This week, I'll begin with cool colors, showing you how to decorate with specific colors, how to use color in small spaces, and how to paint and upholster with color. I'm kicking this off with one color I'm really loving lately: turquoise! Take a look at how you can decorate with this greenish-blue hue.

Ask Casa: Dexter Duvet Cover

Dear Casa,
I am trying to track down a duvet cover/comforter that I saw on an episode of Dexter. I have exhausted the web and searched everywhere, but nothing. The duvet is a turquoise/teal blue with a gold iridescence to it. I would like to find it or something similar. You can see the duvet cover around minute 1:55 in this YouTube video. If you have any advice on what I can do to locate a similar duvet, I would really appreciate it.

Good find! That duvet cover has a sharp teal color, and it pairs well with her orange sheets. I wasn't able to track down the exact same item, but this teal Blissliving Max Peacock Comforter ($235–275) is a close second. This one is actually ribbed which gives it a really luxurious texture, and the underside is chocolate brown which gives you some versatility if you want to switch things up. The satin fabric also has an iridescence to it, which sounds like what you were looking for.

You can also just head to a fabric retailer like Calico Corners to find the exact silk fabric you want. Then, have a duvet cover made or make it yourself; it's a fairly simple sewing project.

Inspired: Project Runway Winner Leanne Marshall's Collection

I'm totally infatuated with Project Runway season five winner Leanne Marshall's final collection. I loved how the palette was so restrained, just neutrals and a gorgeous turquoise; it really let the sculptural shape of the clothes shine. And although the collection did have an architectural quality, the pieces were still full of movement, with pleats that fluttered like a flock of birds bursting into the air.

I thought I'd see if I could capture the essence of the collection with a few home furnishings, and as usual, I was able to come up with some inspired finds. Not only did I discover a range of products in the same palette, but I also came across a handful of pieces with similar sculptural pleats, folds, and curves. To see for yourself, read more.

Crave Worthy: Antique Ebonized and Turquoise Silk Chairs

I love a good plush seat, but sometimes I can't help but sacrifice comfort for good looks. And, that time is now. The Antique Ebonized and Turquoise Silk Chairs ($1,300 for pair) from Paris Hotel Boutique don't look one bit comfortable, but they're just so ravishing. I think it's the juxtaposition of the contemporary turquoise Dupioni silk with the 1900s ebonized and gilt design. I imagine the chairs were originally upholstered in a fussy floral, but the lack of pattern here really lets the chairs' beautiful shape shine. I'd set them at the heads of a dining table, paired with some basic black Louis XV chairs, or station one in a quiet hallway to provide a pop of color.

Casa Quickie: Mix Warm and Cool Colors

Since complementary colors offer a very strong contrast, using them together is a great way to assert your decorating personality in a bold and confident manner. For instance, this cool turquoise color, used throughout most of this room, is offset by one splash of red, shown in this loveseat. While the loveseat is only one element, it actually dominates the room. This is because when warm colors (such as red or yellow) are used with cool colors (such as gray or blue), they tend to draw the greater emphasis.

Roundup: Orange Accents

I thought I'd continue the talk of warm colors with one color that's very trendy these days: orange. I see orange paired often with deep grays in spare, contemporary spaces. But it looks equally smart in traditional rooms, paired with turquoise or navy. A room painted in orange, or even a chair upholstered in orange, probably wouldn't be my thing. But I do like orange used in accents, especially if the color is continued throughout the room. So I thought I'd round a few up. From clocks and candles to wall hooks and letter trays, orange comes in all shapes, forms, and functions.

Vintage Lamps Make For a Lovely Home

Desire/Acquire: Clio Glass Hargreave Carafe

I've been aching to own the Clio Glass Hargreave Carafe ($120) since I first saw it about five years ago. It's so clever and fun! I love its modern pill shape and bright colors, and how its top becomes a glass. But I wouldn't use it enough to justify buying it; it would really just be a display piece. As it turns out, I'm not alone in my love for this carafe. A well-known designer created one for his own collection. Want to see it? Then read more.

The new Jonathan Adler Pill Carafe ($48), made of double-cased handblown glass, is available in turquoise, tomato, yellow, smoke, and white. It's definitely not as striking as Clio's transparent glass design, but it does have its own appeal.

To be honest, it bugs me a bit that Adler is knocking off the work of other designers. He is one of few interior/product designers who has really made a name for himself (and is reaping the benefits of it) - can't he come up with his own designs? Just a reminder: his Utopia series was very clearly "inspired" by the work of Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad. Sorry to vent, but does anyone else agree?
