Do You Reuse Your Hotel Towels?

When staying at a hotel, I always reuse my towels if I'm staying for more than one night. Almost all hotels leave cards in the bathrooms asking guests to do so, and studies show that the majority of guests do. Are you in the majority?

Lucky enough to score some fluffy new towels for your bathing routine? Make sure to take extra care when washing them. After buying new towels, make sure to wash them separately. This is because most towels will run when first washed. After the first wash, they're usually fine, though, so separate by color and wash as normal.

Since the divets in a waffle are great for collecting syrup, it stands to reason that a towel designed with a waffle pattern will also be great at sopping up - well, not syrup, unless you live in a Willy Wonka house. Good old water is all this waffle design needs to contend with, and I'm happy to say that the Christy Organic Waffle Towel ($105 for three bath towels) does just that.

Granted, these towels are a bit of a splurge, but I can attest that they're well worth it. The waffle design of the towel wicks away water more efficiently than any towel I've ever owned, and the organic cotton is a great reassurance that I'm keeping my house as eco as possible. I have to admit that I've been neglecting some of my other towels in favor of the waffle towels, and if finances permitted, I'd be tempted to replace more of my bath towels with the Christy's waffle towels.

I'm a huge fan of tea towels. They're so versatile that I use them for everything from drying dishes to covering a batch of cookies to napkin substitutes. I like them even more when they come with a cute design, like all of these great towels I've found on Etsy.

In my own bathroom, I'm a white tile, white towel kind of girl. I like to keep them simple and easily replaceable since everyday towels do wear out. Guest bathrooms, I think, are the place to get busy (wink, wink). I love these hand-woven Tunisian Fouta Towels ($70), which you can use as a towel, a wrap, a throw, or even a tablecloth. But I suspect they're not very absorptive; to the guest bathroom they go! Looking to introduce some pattern into your bathroom? There's only so much we can do to make our storage look pretty without calling in California Closets for a pricey custom mahogany masterpiece - like Debi Mazar's shoe paradise. But just because you gotta work with what you got doesn't mean you're at a loss. When it comes to storing towels, roll them and stack them instead of folding them. This is not only the tightest way to store them, but the prettiest. And if, like me, you care about things like wrinkles, you'll be happy to know that "rolling with it" prevents those pesky creases and folds.

Casa Beta: A Tale of Two Towels

Christy, a top UK towel manufacturer, has recently brought its bath and beach towels to the US market, and I was lucky enough to test a couple of them.

The first towel I tried, which is shown above, was from the Embrace collection ($38 for one bath towel). Made from micro modal, silk, and cotton, this is, I can honestly say, the softest towel I've ever used. It feels incredibly good on your skin and is a treat to blot your face with after you've given it a good wash. I was pleased with this towel in nearly every way; however, it seemed to snag rather easily, perhaps because the silk and modal isn't as durable as cotton.

While I love to buy organic linens, I've been a bit skeptical of their softness and durability, based on some unhappy prior experiences, but since I'm always hoping to find another high quality organic textile, I gave this organic towel (not yet available online) a shot. Functionally, it impressed me — a quick absorber, it dried quickly, and was unbelievably softer than my set of regular cotton towels. Aesthetically, it's nothing to write home about it, but it fits the bill for the daily bath.

I would definitely recommend the organic towels, especially for daily use. If you're the kind of gal who's very careful with her bath towels, I'd recommend that you also try the silk towel - if you can avoid snagging it (I snagged it on an earring), then you're in for a treat.
