I've always been fascinated with topiary gardens. They seem so magical. It amazes me how gardeners create such tailored shapes from something as unruly as trees — and then keep up with trimming them.

Topiary mazes, like London's Hampton Court maze, pictured here, are amazing hybrids of horticulture and art. The Hampton Court maze, designed by George London and Henry Wise, was erected between 1689 and 1695.

As part of Milan Design Week 2008, Kartell installed seven 13-foot-tall topiary sculptures depicting a selection of its best known outdoor products at the Triennale Garden in Milan. The super-sized shrubs included a giant Dr. No chair, Victoria Ghost chair, Bubble Club chair, La Boheme stool, and Mr. Impossible chair, all designed by Philippe Starck.

I've shown you a horse topiary outside of Stella McCartney's Beverly Hills store, but I've never shown you a topiary clock.
Who would settle for a sundial when they could clip their shrubbery into numbers? This reminds me of something you might see in a children's park, though in reality it was found on the campus of a major university.

I spotted this fairy tale-esque horse topiary in a post Danny Seo recently wrote about Stella McCartney's new Beverly Hills store. This is just part of her lavish garden in the back of the store. I love it, but can't imagine having a manicured, shaped topiary at my house.

Z Gallerie's Soho Pavilion ($399.99, reduced from $599.99) is water- and fade-resistant, so you can host a chic party outdoors rain or shine. But, would you blame me for wanting to set up this chic tent indoors? I'm imagining a cross between Nick Olsen's tented workspace and interior designer Marjorie Skouras's oversize indoor topiary bedroom.

Etsy seller Love, California was born and bred in Texas, and she's got the pillows to prove it. She makes charming wool-blend felt pillows bearing an icon of the Lone Star State, the cactus. Her Cactus With White Blooms Pillow ($125) is entirely hand-stitched in the shape of a cactus, while the Cactus Topiary Felt Pillow ($60) is square and hand-stitched with a colorful cactus appliqué.

I think this living room designed by Liz Levin has a lot of interesting elements. Key words: a lot. While I adore that clover-shaped ottoman, the use of topiaries indoors, and the style in general, I think there's just too much going on.
