A chic throw pillow will give an instant face-lift to even the shabbiest of sofas and chairs. At the same time, you can easily swap out your throw pillows to give your seating a whole new look. As it turns out, you can snag plenty of decorative pillows made from luxurious designer fabrics on Etsy. I've rounded up a few of my favorites for you.

Found It! My Feather Pillow

Over a year ago, I picked up a pink velvet throw pillow screen-printed in gold with a feather (at right) on sale at a San Francisco boutique for $14. Since then, I've always wondered who made it, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. As it turns out, the pillow sells for over 10 times more than I bought it - score! It's also available in a variety of colors and with other imagery printed on it, such as a deer, a lobster, and chainlink. Want to see where you can buy one? Then read more.

Maison24 sells a sky blue, 12"x16" Feather Pillow for $145. I also like their peacock-blue velvet pillow with gold-metallic deer screen print. But, to be honest, I wouldn't buy either for over $100.

Steal of the Day: Nate Berkus Linen Chain Pillow

One look at this sophisticated linen hand-stitched chain pillow, and I bet you'd never guess it's from HSN. Well, it is. And better yet, this Nate Berkus Linen Chain Pillow ($14.95, reduced from $39.95) is unbelievably affordable. Judging the quality of online products is difficult, but considering that this one is made of 100 percent linen, I feel reassured. Moreover, I just love its chain detailing. The zig-zag patterned chain has a great graphic quality and juxtaposes in a fresh way with the natural quality of the linen.

Nice and New: Designers Guild Cushions

London-based luxury fabric and wall-covering company Designers Guild is hands down one of my favorite retailers of home décor of all time. If you're in the market for indulgent, feminine, colorful, and sophisticated textiles, DG is the answer. I'm always particularly won over by the retailer's stunning collection of throw pillows ("cushions"), made from luxurious cut velvets and sumptuous silks, with delicate and unique embroideries. The latest cushion additions feature modern stripes, exotic florals, and updated paisleys in a perfect, macaron-esque palette. I'd love to own them all, but here are a few of my favorites, from top left: Whitewell Celadon ($140), Delancey Lime ($100), Bourton Peony ($140), Margot Rose ($250), Bourton Celadon ($140), and Madison Peony ($100). Etsy seller Love, California was born and bred in Texas, and she's got the pillows to prove it. She makes charming wool-blend felt pillows bearing an icon of the Lone Star State, the cactus. Her Cactus With White Blooms Pillow ($125) is entirely hand-stitched in the shape of a cactus, while the Cactus Topiary Felt Pillow ($60) is square and hand-stitched with a colorful cactus appliqué. If you hail from Japan, you may prefer her hilarious Sumo Pillow ($109); Hawaii, her Hula Girl ($125); New Orleans, her Fleur-de-Lis Pillow ($55); and if you're just an average Joe, her Dark Cross Pillow ($55) might be for you.

Nice and New: Dragonflower Babysilk Throw Pillows

Sometimes all a girl needs to put a little spring in her step at home is a snappy new throw pillow. The Dragonflower Babysilk Throw Pillow ($156), new at Decorati, would certainly do the trick for this girl. Made of embroidered babysilk, which is similar to linen but with a shine. I find it quite luxurious. I also like the abstraction in the dragonflower motif. The trouble is trying to narrow down my choice to one (or two) colorways - the orange, fuschia, pale aqua, café au lait, and Louis blue are each supremely chic. The former two are clearly more peppy while the others are subdued and could integrate quietly with existing throw pillows. Ah, love is a battlefield. What do you think?

How Many Throw Pillows Are on Your Sofa?

I spotted this photo in the portfolio of photographer Catherine Gratwicke and nearly choked at the sight of all those throw pillows! The photograph is a beautiful one (love the natural light!), but seriously, where's a girl supposed to sit? Have you ever seen anything like this? How many throw pillows are on your sofa?Source

Love It or Hate It? I Dream of Greenie Pillow

I'm all for recycling, but I'm not sure we need to be so obvious about it. The I Dream of Greenie Pillow ($65), which is made from 75 percent recycled cotton, makes a nice effort at drawing attention to environmental concerns. But, since it's not made of 100 percent recycled cotton, perhaps it should stop singing its own praises. Then again, it does have a hip sort of masculine industrial design.

Found It! Olivia Palermo's Mirrored Pillows

If you watch The City (or read Page Six), you're familiar with self-proclaimed "social" Olivia Palermo, Whitney Port's co-worker at Diane von Furstenberg. I'm a big fan of her old-Hollywood-style apartment, which is featured on the show. As you can see, Palermo went with a calm, muted palette, leaving the walls plain and choosing white and off-white furnishings. I couldn't help but notice her mirrored throw pillows; I think they're a great way to add pattern and texture without necessarily adding color. Jayson Home and Garden's Sheesha Pillows ($205-395) are quite similar to Olivia's pillows, if not the same. They're also quite expensive, so if you don't mind the natural color, you might also consider the Viva Terra Raw Silk Sheesha Pillows ($118-174, on sale). Sheesha, FYI, means glass and light in Hindi.

Crave Worthy: Klein Reid Flora & Fauna Pillows

TheKlein Reid Flora & Fauna Pillows ($120-125) are certainly not your grandmother's embroidery. These hand-creweled linen pillows feature quirky flowers and animals in bold colors, giving the folksy art a swig of hip flair. I've seen a wealth of crafty homemade interior accessories over the past few years, but nothing so fun and chic. As you might have guessed, the embroidered owl is my fave, he's got so much personality. But I adore all of these beauties, and they look fantastic sitting together! Each palette is fresh and well-chosen, and graceful curves give each design character. What do you think?
