As facile and affordable as your pharmacy variety gift tag stickers may be, they're a little lacking in the humor department. That's why I'm refreshed - and your giftees will be, too - by the Shine Box Print Gift Givers Tag ($6.95). These gag gift tags come with the requisite "To" and "From" fields, but they're given a dose of light-hearted humor with wry one-liners like, "I made this myself, in China," and "No elves were harmed in the making of this gift." Gift shopping is hard, and so is paying the bills on time at month's end. But this part is easy.

How-To: Make Homemade Gift Tags

One great way to personalize a gift during the holiday season is by creating unique gift cards. I recently found a cute, easy tutorial for doing just that. You start out with a simple shipping tag, like the one seen above.

What You'll Need

shipping tags
small fabric scraps
glue or thread and needle
twine, yarn, or ribbon
letter stamps, or calligraphy markers or other nice pens

Here's how to do it, from Zakka Life:

Cut a small piece of fabric with pinking shears. Hand sew fabric onto tag, or glue the edge closest to the small end of the tag.
Hand stamp a name, or write the name or message under the fabric on the tag.
Attach a ribbon, twine, or piece of yarn to tag, and attach it to gift.
Give gift!

Once you're subscribed, click New Post on the upper right-hand side and choose what type of post you want to create. If you have just one photo and some text, create a text post; if you have a bunch of photos you want to share, select "gallery." The Community Help Group has a great primer on how to create a text post, so check that out if you've never posted one before. Here's a rundown of the basic process:

Su Casa can be found by clicking on See My Groups & Blogs from your member name drop-down. Once on the group homepage, click on New Post and choose the type of post.
Add a Title and the Body (content for your post). Don't forget to click the Check Spelling link and Upload an Image to make your post stand out!
In Advanced Options, add appropriate categories and tags. Click on Save Post and voila!

Desire/Acquire: Rubie Green Tillinghast Fabric

Don't get me wrong: I absolutely adore Rubie Green textiles. But the label's stylish and eco-conscious fabrics are not exactly wallet-conscious. This cheerful, Chippendale-esque Tillinghast fabric goes for $90 a yard. It's true, there are fabrics much more expensive. But this price tag adds up when you're ordering drapes for every window in your living room, or covering the whole canvas of a chair, and then you pay your upholsterer. Luckily, I know one fabric with a similar sunny yellow trellis pattern to save you some dimes. Want to see it?

Etsy Find: Paloma's Nest Holiday Christmas Text Tiles

This Paloma's Nest Holiday Christmas Text Tile Set ($8) is a set of four porcelain charms/tags which make perfect miniature surprises to tie onto a gift, around a bottle of wine, or to use as party favors. Each is handcrafted and the set comes with one each imprinted with the words "Happy Holidays," "Joy to the World," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and "Happy New Year!" I love the sentiment behind them, and the extra thought that is put into using them with a holiday or hostess gift.

How Much Would You Spend on a Throw?

I'm not much of an animal-print person, but for some reason I'm really drawn to these Williams-Sonoma Home Safari Printed Cashmere Throws ($268, reduced from $368). While its luxurious cashmere and wool blend may be cause for its high price tag, that doesn't mean I'll actually be buying it. I think my max has to be $200 for a really, really lovely throw. What's yours?

Desire/Acquire: Luna Chandelier

If you're into dark glamour, run, don't walk to the Luna Chandelier ($1200). With gothically elegant charm, this chandelier balances its dark exterior shade with a cluster of clear crystals. However, even if you absolutely adore this piece, your pace might be slowed down a bit thanks to the chandelier's tragic price tag.

For a quarter of the price, you can pick up a near match in the Artcraft Lighting Claremont Chandelier ($317.55). Granted, there are fewer crystal, but you could add your own by buying some chandelier crystals on eBay. Do you like the cheaper option? Or is the original worth the higher price tag?
