Coveted Crib: A Paper-Perfect Studio Loft

If I had my druthers, I probably wouldn't choose to live in a studio. But if I had to, I cannot imagine a more perfect space than this studio loft in Lägenhet, Stockholm (which is for sale). With tall ceilings, a bed and extra storage are tucked up high, making for a true living room. The apartment's bright white walls and beautiful natural light expand the space, while a select few gorgeously wallpapered walls give it depth and serious style. The kitchen has streamlined modern white cabinetry and one of my favorite elements: concrete countertops. The bathroom is complete with a towel warmer (woot!), a washer/dryer, and a sharp zebrawood sink basin. And better yet, it boasts what every girl dreams of: a walk-in closet. Coveted Crib: Slaughterhouse Fine

A former slaughterhouse in Ulricehamn, Sweden, was transformed into this fabulous coveted crib. Outfitted with furniture and accessories from around the world, the space feels much more metropolitan than you'd expect from a rural Swedish home. An extensive collection of artwork is mixed with both vintage and modern furniture. Antique Corinthian columns mingle with an Arne Jacobsen Swan chair, worn wood surfaces with plush velvet, and IKEA with Philippe Starck, creating endless serendipitous juxtapositions. Home Away From Home: Stockholm's Hotel J

Stockholm's Hotel J is a super chic chalet influenced by the fine craftsmanship of yachting with a distinct Scandinavian twist. Bright and airy, the interiors' chairs and sofas are upholstered in thick white wrinkly cotton and also feature clean-lined contemporary light oak furniture. The hotel has a gorgeous view of the Stockholm harbor, and guests can rent sailboats or taking sailing lessons.

"Nautical by nature," the hotel is filled with boating accents throughout, such as sail remnants and model sailboats, but knickknacks are kept to a minimum. I love the calm vibe of the hotel. Coveted Crib: Black and White and Cool All Over

With a palette that is mostly black and white, the accents of color in this Stockholm home really pop. Beyond that, Dutch decorator André Schievink courageously mixed minimalism with kitsch, antiques with Ikea, in a way that makes each piece stand out. For instance, in the dining room an ancient dining table is surrounded by plastic Verner Panton S Chairs, and next door a slick modern table lamp sits curiously on a period grand piano. Casa Shops: From Sthlm

When I traveled to Sweden, I was stunned by all the gorgeous blondes (and blonds), but I was especially impressed with the country's propensity for good design. Not only were design shops ubiquitous, but even simple, everyday items seemed to have smart aesthetics. Though stylish as well, I'm not referring to traditional folkloric design - or Ikea.
Nevertheless, I was pleased to hear about a new stateside store that showcases (and sells) the work of one independent Swedish designer each month, from Sthlm. This month, the first month, you'll find cutting boards, coasters, and tea towels by pattern designer and illustrator Lotta Kühlhorn are up for sale. Kühlhorn's poppy mixed apple and radish designs are cheerful and colorful. Her simple and bold graphics have a '70s flair that would certainly be welcome in my '00s kitchen. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us!

Get the Look: Dark and Cozy in Stockholm

I spotted this home in Sweden's design glossy Skona Hem, and loved the coziness of the living room, and how courageous, rather than predictable, the dark colors are. The mix of materials - velvet, silk, leather - brings so much texture and life to the room. In most rooms, a purple velvet sofa such as this one could be abrasive, but the palette here welcomes it; it belongs in this room. I thought I'd show you how to get the look of this room, since I love it so! It's not the type of space that comes naturally to most; it's quite eclectic. Start by covering your walls with the Cole & Son African Tree wallpaper (inquire for price). Next, you'll need a velvet sofa with defined curves in a deep purple or blue color. Lay down a patchwork cowhide rug. Instead of a coffee table, go for a Moroccan-style tea table. Glam it up with a scented candle and some fresh tulips. For storage, get yourself a Chinese armoire or cabinet. Top it with some bulbous metallic vases. Center a round mirror over the fireplace as a focal point. And, for

Coveted Crib: Slick in Sweden

Designed by architects Jenny Frigren and Maria Sahlstrand, this unique Swedish penthouse loft has two balconies, a fireplace, and a open-plan living space. While its architectural highlights - including tall windows with great lighting, slick black built-in kitchen cabinets, and Corian counters - will wow you, this pad's interior design is stylishly succinct as well. Although possibly life threatening, I'm aching for its sculptural staircase, with steps that seem to float from the wall. Oh, and who wouldn't kill for their very own in-house sauna? Coveted Crib: Seventh Heaven

Coveted Crib: Swedish by the Sea

Talk about determination: An artist decided that an ancient timber house was her dream home, but it just wasn't in her dream location. Her solution? Dismantle the house board by board, and ship it to the south of Sweden. Voila! Now her favorite home is in her favorite landscape.
