Stockholm's Hotel J is a super chic chalet influenced by the fine craftsmanship of yachting with a distinct Scandinavian twist. Bright and airy, the interiors' chairs and sofas are upholstered in thick white wrinkly cotton and also feature clean-lined contemporary light oak furniture. The hotel has a gorgeous view of the Stockholm harbor, and guests can rent sailboats or taking sailing lessons.

"Nautical by nature," the hotel is filled with boating accents throughout, such as sail remnants and model sailboats, but knickknacks are kept to a minimum. I love the calm vibe of the hotel. Coveted Crib: Black and White and Cool All Over

With a palette that is mostly black and white, the accents of color in this Stockholm home really pop. Beyond that, Dutch decorator André Schievink courageously mixed minimalism with kitsch, antiques with Ikea, in a way that makes each piece stand out. Coveted Crib: Wallpaper Magic

Wallpaper continues its reign in 2009, in good part because beautiful designs are readily available to the public through companies like Walnut Wallpaper, Ferm Living, and Graham & Brown.

This Stockholm home, which was featured in Skona Hem, is chock full of wallpaper, and as you can see, it works wonders. Though much of the furniture was thrifted, and the family purchased inexpensive Ikea kitchen cabinets, the range of show-stopping wallpapers makes each room instantly luxurious. Paired with an intensive wallpaper, a few pieces of original artwork and accessories in each room, which add a personal touch, are all that's needed to complete the look - even if the furniture is understated. Get the Look: Dark and Cozy in Stockholm

I spotted this home in Sweden's design glossy Skona Hem, and loved the coziness of the living room, and how courageous, rather than predictable, the dark colors are. The mix of materials - velvet, silk, leather - brings so much texture and life to the room. In most rooms, a purple velvet sofa such as this one could be abrasive, but the palette here welcomes it; it belongs in this room. I thought I'd show you how to get the look of this room, since I love it so! It's not the type of space that comes naturally to most; it's quite eclectic. Start by covering your walls with the Cole & Son African Tree wallpaper (inquire for price). Next, you'll need a velvet sofa with defined curves in a deep purple or blue color. Lay down a patchwork cowhide rug. Instead of a coffee table, go for a Moroccan-style tea table. Glam it up with a scented candle and some fresh tulips. For storage, get yourself a Chinese armoire or cabinet. Top it with some bulbous metallic vases. Center a round mirror over the fireplace as a focal point. And, for

Coveted Crib: A Paper-Perfect Studio Loft

If I had my druthers, I probably wouldn't choose to live in a studio. But if I had to, I cannot imagine a more perfect space than this studio loft in Lägenhet, Stockholm (which is for sale). With tall ceilings, a bed and extra storage are tucked up high, making for a true living room. The apartment's bright white walls and beautiful natural light expand the space, while a select few gorgeously wallpapered walls give it depth and serious style. The kitchen has streamlined modern white cabinetry and one of my favorite elements: concrete countertops. The bathroom is complete with a towel warmer (woot!), a washer/dryer, and a sharp zebrawood sink basin. And better yet, it boasts what every girl dreams of: a walk-in closet. Nice and New: Lace Shopping Basket at the Container Store

You might have seen the Design House Stockholm Carrie Shopping Basket when I featured it in my Not Your Grandma's Lace Trend Alert, or even snuck a peek of it used as a magazine holder in my very own house. I must admit, I shelled out $44 for the basket from Zinc Details - kind of a lot for my shelter mag storage, but I couldn't resist! When I caught it selling for $37 at Unica Home, I felt a little cheated. Now that I've seen it selling at the Container Store for $29.99 (what a steal!), I really just feel as dumb as a rock. But, perhaps this means I can snatch one up to use as an actual shopping basket. : )

Coveted Crib: Serene in Stockholm

Details like hung textiles soften spaces, while a restrained palette keeps the feel calm and serene. Ask Casa: What to Do About Burgundy

Su Casa member Pretty Little Things got this overstuffed burgundy chenille burgundy chair at a garage sale for only $50. She wants to integrate it into her awesome new apartment, but her "theoretical color scheme involves grays, golds, whites, neutrals, dark wood, no burgundy!" And aside from the color, she also finds the chair bulky. So she asks, "Can someone suggest a nice color palette that would match with burgundy (in keeping with the other colors I had in mind, or something like them) or should I just give up and get a slipcover?"

Good question!

First of all, is the chair in good condition? If not, I wouldn't invest any money in even a slipcover. While $50 seems like a bargain for a chair, with some more garage sale trolling and Craigslist, I think you can find another used chair in good condition that may eliminate the burgundy issue.

Next, do you mind the shape? Personally, that overstuffed look is not my style, but if you like it, keep it. If you don't like the bulky shape and you're just keeping it because it was cheap, I think you should just sell it. Don't bring anything into your home that you don't love, or that you can't alter (to be loved).

That said, I think it's a good decision to get a slipcover for the chair, or have one made. Your theoretical palette sounds beautiful and I would love to see how you put it all together. While the burgundy wouldn't exactly clash, I think it might stand out as more of an eyesore than anything else. And, if we're talking aesthetics, I've never been a fan of burgundy furnishings, either!

I suggest getting a white or off-white slipcover that's NOT fitted - and even wrinkly if you can find one. I'm thinking of the chairs in Stockholm's Hotel J, which I think are cool and relaxed. This look works really well with overstuffed chairs, and will give yours a modern-meets-shabby-chic vibe.

Steal of the Day: Room & Board Henley Rug

It's not hard to find affordable rugs these days. Natural fiber/sisal rugs are always good quality and within reach. IKEA's Stockholm Rand Rug ($179) is sharp and classic. But no one wants the rug that everyone else from here to Sweden owns. And sisal rugs, though durable and versatile, won't bring much personality to a room, if that's what you're looking for.

So I'm psyched to see the Room & Board Olive Henley Rug ($199 for 5'x8') on sale. Hand-woven in India of 100 percent wool, it's durable and all-natural. Its olive, blue, and chocolate palette, though, is what won me over. The color scheme is subtle, masculine, and fresh. And, you know as well as I do that stripes never go out of style. What do you think?
