This promotional photo for 30 Rock features a very smartly appointed office. But while many elements in the room are handsome, the tufted-leather nail-head trim sofa that Tina Fey sits on is really the most eye-catching. There's a name for this particular style of sofa, do you know it?

London-based design firm Doshi Levien designed the Principessa Daybed for Moroso. It consists of several thin mattress layers and was inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's tale "The Princess and the Pea." I think it's absolutely charming and clever, and would bring a bit of nostalgic whimsy to any room!

This new sofa from Anthropologie is actually upholstered with a type of rug that's made of silk and cotton and common in the Middle East. Can you name it?

I adore this sofa, which is featured in The Invention of Lying. It has great, clean lines and a modern shape, but still looks cozy, and the neutral linen color makes it easy to decorate around. Neutral sofas are a great building block for a number of styles, from classic country to bohemian chic.

While this Anthropologie Henning Sofa ($3,998) looked pretty sweet in the September catalog, when seen on its own, it's a little fugly, if you ask me. I'm a little shy of using plaid on large pieces of furniture, and when you combine two on the same piece, it's a design don't in my book. What about in yours?

Fashion force Vivienne Tam is taking her modern Chinoiserie home — to your home. She's partnered with Rowe Furniture to create a new collection of custom upholstery furniture, including multiple sofa groupings and accent pieces. While designing furniture is a natural extension for many fashion designers, I think Tam's strength lies in textiles, so I'm excited to see a range of exclusive fabric designs used in the collection.

If you're low on cash for furniture, or just want to try something unique, make a daybed out of shipping pallets. You may spot some on the street, but you can also ask a local warehouse if they have any to offer or sell cheaply. Paint or spray paint a pair of them to match a cushion, and then stack them.

Velvet sofas can look Victorian, like this one, found at the Mill Rose Inn in Half Moon Bay, CA, or they can look decidedly modern, such as the West Elm Blake sofa ($1,199). Either way, they add a touch of luxury to your living space.

New from CB2, the Finn Lounger ($1,099) looks immensely comfortable. With slung-back-yet-sleek Scandinavian lines and a lovely dark finish on its solid-ash frame, this is a substantial sofa alternative that can also double as a bed for visiting friends. The open-geometric frame is covered with a natural cotton and jute-covered cushion, which is stuffed with feathers and foam.
