With a palette that is mostly black and white, the accents of color in this Stockholm home really pop. Beyond that, Dutch decorator André Schievink courageously mixed minimalism with kitsch, antiques with Ikea, in a way that makes each piece stand out. For instance, in the dining room an ancient dining table is surrounded by plastic Verner Panton S Chairs, and next door a slick modern table lamp sits curiously on a period grand piano.

This boho-chic 19th-century frame, which was recently featured in Skona Hem magazine, has a number of quirky features. One of my favorite quirks is this wall of small sculptures hung high on the wall in the dining room. If you're feeling uninspired by your framed photos and artwork, try adding some textural elements to your wall in the form of small sculptural objects, or even plates.

Browsing through Swedish shelter magazine Sköna Hem, I caught myself daydreaming about dozing off to a scandalous Philippa Gregory novel in this sun-drenched indoor porch. Everything about the space facilitates a three o'clock siesta. The double doors close off the outside world.

Set inside a clear frame, a vast collection of small household items becomes a captivating art piece. Can you tell me what these small items are? I'll give you a hint: they help to light up an expensive vice.

Wallpaper continues its reign in 2009, in good part because beautiful designs are readily available to the public through companies like Walnut Wallpaper, Ferm Living, and Graham & Brown.
This Stockholm home, which was featured in Skona Hem, is chock full of wallpaper, and as you can see, it works wonders. Though much of the furniture was thrifted, and the family purchased inexpensive Ikea kitchen cabinets, the range of show-stopping wallpapers makes each room instantly luxurious.

I spotted this home in Sweden's design glossy Skona Hem, and loved the coziness of the living room, and how courageous, rather than predictable, the dark colors are. The mix of materials — velvet, silk, leather — brings so much texture and life to the room. In most rooms, a purple velvet sofa such as this one could be abrasive, but the palette here welcomes it; it belongs in this room.

With seven bedrooms, this Swedish villa is heavy on space, but light on color. A recurring feature of the home is a quiet, white base that's livened up with cheerful accent colors. In this bedroom, black and white Ralph Lauren wallpaper, paisley bed linens, and a fur comforter are given a soft punch of color with red toile Manuel Canovas pillows.

A Scandinavian home's clean lines and well-chosen antiques are set against a milky white background, which makes the home's seaside locale the center of interest. In this home office, black furnishings, such as the Arne Jacobsen Egg chair, desk, and built-ins, serve as a bold focal point in contrast with the otherwise white space.
