Flipping through the latest issue of Living Etc, I was awestruck by a cool grandfather clock. The quirky and modern design has built-in shelving to hold your housewares — perfect for kitchenware or books.

We've all got walls and stuff to display and store, so who can argue with a wall shelf? Especially a beautiful one that's on sale. The Brocade Home Ruffle Frame Shelf ($199, reduced from $299) is my kind of shelf.

While I do applaud the Wallflower Wallrack (inquire for price) for doing without the use of screws, dowels, or tools (it stays stable thanks to four elastic buffers and a steel leg), its stainless steel leg is a space hog. The Container Store is holding its Annual Storewide Shelving Sale, offering 25 percent off all of their shelving, including the Elfa system, InterMetro, Metro Commercial, modular steel cubes, solid mahogany modular cubes, Ladoro, freestanding, Janus, and wall-mounted shelving. For modernists and those of us short on space, a wall-mounted nightstand is a sleek and functional furnishing that gets the job done. And by job, I mean holds your cell phone, reading material, and maybe a bedside carafe . .

Dating back to the 1920s, this Pair of Bindery Carts ($1,750) from Bond and Bowery are a rare and interesting find. These super-strong carts were once used to ferry books and paper around binderies. But, as you may have suspected, I am not in the business of sourcing furniture for publishers.
