This Just In: Scarlett Johansson Makes a Midtown Move

Remember how Scarlett Johansson sold her TriBeCa loft? Well, you didn't think she'd stay in a hotel her whole life now, did you? Course not. According to Big Time, she has purchased a four-room penthouse in Midtown Manhattan for $2.1 million. The listing for the 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo reads:

Triple Mint Penthouse designed by architect/owner with the most discriminating taste! Elegant and simple with clean lines, top-of-line finishes, and an extraordinary chef's kitchen. In addition, both bathrooms are exceptionally renovated with stone and wood. The terrace is large and beautifully landscaped and features open city views. Additionally, there is a lovely greenhouse off the bedroom. Superb closets and much more!

Sounds pretty fabulous to me. Those open city views are certainly an exceptional selling point. Maybe she can have deal hunter Nick Olsen who lives nearby come over for a design consultation, or just stop by the MoMa in the 'hood for some interior inspiration . . .

This Just In: Scarlett Johansson Sells Tribeca Loft at a Loss

According to Big Time, Scarlett Johansson has sold her 1,300-square-foot duplex loft in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood for nearly $1.89 million. The starlet purchased the unit for nearly $1.95 million in January of 2006, meaning she took a loss on this sale, perhaps thanks to the looming housing crisis. But, a loss of $52,000 is uncommon in Manhattan, if not everywhere, so perhaps next time Johansson should hire a more experienced broker. The loft sits in a former textile building, a Beaux Arts landmark designed by renowned architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, which was built in 1901. The listing reads:

An airy, state-of-the-art duplex, this loft features 22-foot ceilings, hand-painted Tuscan walls, Brazilian cherry wood floors, Limestone fireplace and double-height windows. This Just In: Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany Put Dream House on Market

According to Brownstoner, Jennifer Connolly and Paul Bettany have put their historic, prewar 9-bedroom, 3.5-bath Prospect Park (Brooklyn) Victorian townhouse on the market for $8.5 million. The handsome couple is ditching their park-front manse in favor of a TriBeCa loft, just as Scarlett Johansson and Kevin Spacey are leaving the neighborhood. The listing for the property, which is said to be "one of the all time great houses of New York built at the turn of the century," reads:

All of the original wood carving surrounding the windows and mantels as well as the elaborate plaster work on the ceilings remains in tact and in perfect condition. There are fireplaces in all of the public rooms (living, dining, and kitchen) as well as in 3 of the 4 master bedrooms. There is a full servant's quarters on the top floor consisting of 4 small bedrooms, a full bath, and a large storage room. The original stained and leaded windows exist in the baths and in the large skylight at the top of the grand staircase. If the original architectural elements (including parquet flooring throughout) weren't enough to make you swoon, the décor of the townhouse is stunning and simply tasteful, as to be expected from the classy couple. I'm particularly drooling over how they've subtly integrated modern furnishings with a soft color palette into the Victorian; it reminds me a bit of Mark Homewood's Mod Victorian, albeit much more understated. What Color Would You Never Paint Your Home?

Orlando Bloom recently painted his $2.75 million Hollywood Hills a near-black shade that has neighbors Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson a bit perturbed.

While I think the house is actually kind of cool-looking (okay, and a bit goth, admittedly), I can see why it would turn off neighbors who have to look at it every day. There are definitely some shades that I'd never dream of painting my house - what are your color no-nos?
