After hearing Oprah say that she refuses to have a television in the bedroom, I guiltily placed my flatscreen at the end of my bed during my last apartment move. I know, bad feng shui, energy, whatever you want to call it, but how great is it when a good Netflix movie arrives and you get to crawl into your cozy bed and watch it - chip crumbs and all?! I don't need to tell you that the Internet is a bizarre place. It doesn't take much time to stumble upon weird sites or products, and it seems that anything having to do with sex is especially popular. Just recently I came upon this gem - it's an Everyone I've Slept With Pillowcase ($50). It serves two purposes. It can help you keep a record of everyone who's spent the night at your place (you know, in case you can't remember). But it also acts as a bold declaration to the world of what happens between your sheets (for those who like to share).

Can you imagine showing up at someone's house, being handed a Sharpie, and seeing this huge list of names?! Personally, I like to keep this kind of information to myself, but what's your take? Do you love the idea of this pillowcase, or do you think it's completely absurd?

Love It or Hate It? Love Pillowcase Set

Although Love Shack month is officially over, I still have to ask if you love to love this Urban Outfitters Love Pillowcase Set ($24). To me, it looks like a bad photocopy that is bleeding, which is far from romantic. I'd hate to skew your response, but I wouldn't choose to lay my head on it, let alone bring it near my house.

I just want to remind you of a disgustingly true fact. Dust mites live off the dead skin cells that you shed. So guess where they love to lurk? In your bed. Yup, as you sleep, your skin sloughs off and works its way down into your mattresses and pillows. If the air in your room is humid (which in the warm weather it most likely is), dust mites get into your bed and your pillows and happily multiply into large colonies.Your own body creates heat as you breathe and perspire, and they love that too. There can be as many as 30,000 tiny dust mites living in just 1 oz of dust, and you are allergic to their poop.

With that said, let me ask you this - Can you remember the last time you changed your pillows? If you can't, now is the time to buy some new ones.

If you don't already have them, you can pick up dust mite pillowcases ($16.95) and encase your new pillows in them. If you recently bought new pillows, you can still use these special pillowcases, since not only do they not allow dust mites to get into your pillow, but they'll trap existing dust mites as well.

How to Store Small Kitchen Appliances

Clean and ample counter space - the elusive ideal everyone, from the culinary genius to the working mom to the metropolitan gal, dreams about. While renovating your kitchen and adding more cabinetry may not be financially and spatially viable, more counter space on a limited budget can be within your grasp. Lo and behold, five ways to hide, store, and camouflage those mixers, microwaves, and more for clutter-free counters.

Transparency is convenient. Cabinets at counter level might fare better for appliance storage without the doors and hinges (like in this photo from Better Homes and Gardens). You'll be more inclined to scoot your heavy mixer in a nook rather than lifting or bending over to store it in a cabinet. If you don't already have open shelving, create some with Ikea Lack shelves ($7 each). Just make sure the shelves are near a socket, so you barely have to move the appliance.

Garages aren't just for cars. Appliance garages may take up some counter space, but they'll conveniently hide those unsightly metals. You can even paint the garages and add your own special pizzazz so that it blends into your kitchen seamlessly.

Dye Your Décor With Produce

In the new issue of Sweet Paul magazine, there's a feature on using fruits and vegetables to dye fabric naturally. I love the way the gradient on this farmers market bag turned out, and these napkins have me dreaming up colorful outdoor Summer dinner parties, but I also think the colors are so lovely on their own that they'd be just as fantastic as solids.

The issue provided a few more ideas for textiles to dye, including frame mats and pillowcases. Now I'm bursting with thoughts about what décor items around my home I could dye. Some of my favorites that I'd love to try are bed skirts, duvets, bolsters, and cocktail napkins. But I'm also thinking it could be interesting to dye a fabric with a subtle print like seersucker or with texture like quilting, embroidery, or ruffled trim.
