Would You Put Your Photo on a Shower Curtain?

PhotoShowerCurtain.com will use a photo or digital image of your choice to create a custom, full-printed shower curtain for you. I can see this being cool if maybe an artsy, black and white photo were used - like the Studio 54 image used on the Izola Patrick McMullan Shower Curtain - but otherwise, it might be too kitschy for me. What do you say?

Cool Idea: Poladroid

Ever since Polaroid decided to discontinue its instant-film products, I've been trying to snatch up all of the 600 film I come across. But, that gets pricey, considering the film costs nearly a buck per development. You know how I love my Polaroids, though, so it puts me in a pickle. I just came across probably the coolest thing I've seen in ages though, making those worries vanish as instantly as . . . a Polaroid picture. Poladroid (also Geek's Site of the Day) is a software application that easily creates high-resolution Polaroid-like pictures from your digital photographs. The application is free, and easily downloadable. So, I gave it a shot and it couldn't be more simple. Just drag and drop your photo from where it's saved to the camera graphic in the program. Then, you "shake" the picture by moving it with your mouse, and it will slowly develop. When the image has finished developing, it will automatically save to the original folder. As you can tell from these photos, the results are pretty marvelous. You coulda fooled me.

DIY: Faux Bois Photo Board

I recently stumbled across this clever DIY that adds faux bois to a board reserved for treasured photos. It's a quick and simple project with lovely results.

What You'll Need

Cardboard (any size)
Faux bois contact paper (about 2 feet depending on the size of your frame)
Picture frame
Scissors or Xacto knife

Here's how to do it, according to Paper and Stitch.

Cut cardboard to desired size. Then remove one corner of the contact paper backing and start at a corresponding corner of the cardboard. While smoothing the contact paper to adhere to the cardboard and get rid of any bubbles, continue pulling the backing away from the contact paper and smooth as you go.
To add visual interest, cut strip several strips of leftover contact paper into various widths and apply them in the opposite direction.
Cut off any excess and then pop it into your frame.
Add photos, and you're all ready to display your latest DIY project.

Casa Quickie: Displaying Treasured Photos at Your Reception

If you're looking for a more organic way to display photos at your wedding reception then steal this idea, which I found in wedding photographer Elizabeth Messina's portfolio. Just wrap a tree snugly with twine and clothespin photos to it. It would even look cuter with some custom clothespins.

Pamela Tachibana is a printmaker/hybrid artist from a long line of artists, all of whom warned her to find a different profession. She now resides with her family, creating art on the craggy coast of Kennebunk, Maine, a part of New England notorious for its quick, lusty summers and seemingly endless, unforgiving winters. Pamela is showing in a group show that benefits the American Breast Cancer Foundation this month at the Four Walls Gallery in Portland, Maine, and also has her next solo exhibit at the Kennebunk Free Library Gallery beginning April first. DIY: How to Make Silhouette Portraits

Want to capture a pet, friend, child, or even flower or plant in a silhouette portrait? Then check out this silhouette portrait tutorial I found on More Ways to Waste Time.

Here's What You Need

Digital camera.
Computer with PhotoShop (or one you can borrow from a friend).
Frame.
Subject to photograph.

Using a digital camera, photograph your subject from the side. Shooting against a white wall or a white poster board will make it easier to digitally remove the background during the next step.
Open the picture in Photoshop. Use the Magic Wand tool to select the background for removal. Once clicked, the background will be outlined and highlighted. Go to "edit" and click "cut." The background will disappear.
Now go to "image" and click "adjustments." Select "desaturate" to remove all color.
In "adjustments," select "brightness/contrast." Then lower the brightness and increase the contrast until your image becomes a silhouette.
If the image isn't completely silhouetted, use the Paintbucket tool (with black as the color selection) to fill in as needed, placing the cursor dead center and clicking until your desired effect is achieved.
Using the Image tool, select "image size" to set your desired dimensions.
Save your silhouette as a JPEG file.
Burn the file to a CD, take it to a copy shop, and print it on paper or card stock.
Trim the edges and frame.
Enjoy your new creation!
