Desire/Acquire: Burlap Chandelier

Fresh off of my burlap bonanza roundup, which featured this Jayson Home & Garden Caravan Chandelier ($1,295), made of an iron frame covered with a burlap potato sack, I spotted a much more affordable version of the light fixture. It's certainly handsome and lends a rustic industrial aesthetic, but I wouldn't pay a penny over a grand for it - if that. Want to see where you can buy the exact same chandelier for less? The Caravan Trapezoid Chandelier ($987.50) from The Paris Market will save you just over 300 smackers. But you know me, I'd say go for a DIY before you buy.

Found It! Light Fixtures From Eastwick

I wouldn't say that the witch-centric drama series Eastwick is on the top of my faves list of this year's Fall TV lineup, but I will give the show set designers props for boldly mixing three very different (and busy) light fixtures in this kitchen. Each of the chandeliers in this photo would be a show-stopper on its own, but combined they create a space that's more about being an eclectic than a specific theme, such as Moroccan or midcentury. In the forefront is a mirrored star chandelier. There are plenty of retailers who sell these, but the Circa Lighting Mini Antique Mirror Star ($123) is a good and affordable match.

The other light fixture in the front is a traditional Moroccan lantern. Tazi Designs sells many variations of these, including this Bahia Pendant ($95).
The chandelier off to the right is a 1950s Italian lamp called a "Sputnik" chandelier. You can easily find these at auction houses like 1st Dibs, such as this Brass Sputnik Chandelier ($1,600).

Desire/Acquire: Copper Pendant Light

Designed in 1968 by Italian architect and designer Roberto Menghi, the Globo di Luce Pendant ($813-$1,170) is as captivating as it was 40 years ago. Blown glass defines the globe's shape, a transparent cable gives it the appearance of floating mid air, and its copper finish gives off a rich, warm light. It's practically solar. Unfortunately, its price tag is out of this world (for most) as well. Luckily, there's a more affordable alternative that's equally spellbinding. To see it, read more.

The Copper Shade Pendant ($495) by Tom Dixon, which received its share of fanfare when it hit stores in 2007, is the spitting image of the Globo - but it sells for half the price of the original. Yes, it's still a splurge. On the other hand, it hasn't gone out of style in 40 years, so that helps to justify the expense.

Love It or Hate It? Justin Guinta Chandelier

New York-based designer Justin Guinta created this one-of-a-kind Construction Light Chandelier ($480) by assembling bursts of crystals onto a yellow plastic construction lamp. I like the concept - industrial design meets fancy schmancy - but I don't think it was executed very well. What do you think?

Found It! Copper Pendant Light

I spotted this photo in the portfolio of Swedish interior stylist Jakob Solgren and couldn't help but think the central copper pendant light looked quite familiar. It makes a very bold, masculine statement in the nearly all-white, very Scandinavian room, so it was hard to ignore. But where had I seen it before? To find out, read more.

It's the Tom Dixon Copper Shade Pendant ($495), which I featured as a must have way back in August 2007. A year and a half later, it's still a crave-worthy piece. Do you approve?

Crave Worthy: Vertical Leaf Pendant Light

Stop laughing. You think this is funny? You know I can't glance at this Megan Auman Vertical Leaf Pendant Light ($240) for one second without pulling out my credit card. It's really hard for me. Show me glossy white, a nature-inspired design, and a lacy cut-out (see here) and I'll write you a check right here and now. Oh Megan, you sell ottomans, too? Well, I was looking for some spare seating . . . how soon can you deliver? Ahhhh. I'm too easy.

Love It or Hate It? Not a Box Light

Despite its looks, David Graas's Not a Box (inquire for price) is not a box but a lamp. The design transforms its own packaging into the lamp itself; after you open the box to find the bulb, cable, and instructions, you use it as the pendant shade. As clever and eco-friendly as it is, I can really only see Not a Box in an industrial interior. What do you think?

Found It! Nicky Hilton's Pendant Lights

Flipping through my vast magazine collection, I recently reread the March issue of InStyle. This issue featured the home of celeb socialite Nicky Hilton, and while I did find it quite chic (though fussy at times) for a 20-something, it wasn't the sophisticated interior design style that struck me. In the master bedroom, which she calls, "classic but naughty [ . . . with] a cabaret feel" (note: patent leather upholstered headboard), the pendant lights framing her bed glared at me. Nicky's pendants are the Sugarlite Pendants ($625) from Neiman Marcus (also available for $590 from Cottage & Bungalow). I featured the pendant in my Black and White Elegance Trend Alert about a year ago. If you take a look at the rest of Nicky's apartment you can see she's certainly a proponent of "black and white elegance." Perhaps she was inspired by my post?
