When it comes to side tables, the Saarinen Tulip Side Table (center) is the be-all and end-all for me. The mid-century design can be incorporated into a modern home as easily as a traditional one, and you're just as likely to find it in either. Fifty-two years after its introduction, the design is as beautiful as ever. But my love isn't reserved for the Tulip only. Whether they be the creation of a prominent designer or a chain store like Crate & Barrel, there are plenty of fabulous tables out there to love. Steal of the Day: Garnet Hill Pedestal Table

In many homes, I often find that there are a couple of corners or square feet of space that are just plain lonely, from which there's notably something missing. An accent table is a foolproof option for this mini-dilemma, but I'd hate to spend big bucks on something that is just an "accent" and not quite a necessity. So for those of you with an empty nook in your home, I present you with the Garnet Hill Pedestal Table ($34), our Steal of the Day. This cheerful wooden table comes in cool turquoise or sunny yellow, and would raise the spirits of any sad corner.

Desire/Acquire: Kartell Stone Stool

Designed by Marcel Wanders, the Kartell Stone Stool ($245) has a very precious appearance thanks to its geometrical facets, which reflect light like a Cartier engagement ring. I'm a fan of the stool's hourglass shape, and the range of colors offered allows you to cue the stool to your room's palette. But, like all of Kartell's products, it is made of plastic ("durable polycarbonate"), and at $245, many of you may consider it a splurge. Luckily, there's a more affordable alternative. The Prismatic Pedestal Side Table ($74.99) from Overstock maybe be a knock-off, but it could have fooled me! It has the same hourglass shape and faceted surface for a fraction of the price.

Before and After: Eddie Ross's New Orleans Showroom

Eddie Ross is at it again. Last month, he headed down to the New Orleans Home and Garden Show, where he was asked to design a room showcasing products from participating vendors and stores around town. He started with this lavender wall color to set a soft tone to the space. Then, he added an antique mantel from a local shop, a Swedish Secretary ($7,500), an antique zinc pedestal dining table from Perch, and some sleek, black Chippendale chairs. He then accessorized with some classic antique glass and white ceramic dinnerware. The result is supremely elegant and quite impressive, considering the quick turnaround. Casa Shops: Spectrum West

I just got an email introducing me to a shop called Spectrum West that sells "post modern acrylic furniture and accessories for the modern home decor enthusiast." As you know, I'm an enthusiast of both acrylic furniture and modern décor, so it sounded right up my alley. Spectrum West is a new venture by Spectrum Limited, a company that's been manufacturing high quality acrylic furniture for 25 years. The vast collection includes acrylic dining tables, console tables, coffee tables, chairs, as well as acrylic accessories and pedestals.

You'll find many familiar faces in the collection, as certain designs are clearly inspired by classics like the Arne Jacobsen Series 7 Chair (the world's most copied chair), as well as more contemporary pieces like the Essey Illusions Side Table. Though "knock-offs" tend to get a bad rap, it's refreshing to see an iconic design newly envisioned in a transparent material, or a cheerful neon. Spectrum West has plenty of original designs as well, which are worth a gander. The prices are a bit overwhelming though; a set of three basic nesting tables, which you can get at CB2 $199, costs $1,325. I also noticed that in the Spectrum Limited Gallery, their acrylic coffee table (shown above) made its way into the home of Libertine clothing designers Johnson Hartig and Cindy Greene, which was featured in Domino.

Steal of the Day: MacMillan Side Table

I've been looking for a hall table for a while, and I wish that the MacMillan Side Table (originally $299.99, on sale for $119.99) was the right size for my hall. Alas, it's not, which means I'm offering it up to you. I love its wishbone pedestal design and light finish color. It's made of solid pine, and requires some assembly, but with such a cheap price point for such a pretty design, I think this is a table worth getting your tools out for.

This adorable Jeu de Quilles (Bowling) Set ($575), designed to look like toy soldiers, is from 1940s France. With only nine pins left, it's probably a bit difficult to play a genuine bowling game. So, I'd like you to think outside of the alley and tell me how you'd use the set in your home as décor or a furnishing. If you're handy or know a good carpenter, you could certainly transform them into a playful and interesting furniture piece, by perhaps using the pins as legs for a table or arms for a shelf. Or, you might even hang them from the ceiling as a chandelier. I'd love to use them as small fence posts, or pedestals for outdoor candles. Nice and New: Harry Allen Branch Table

The Harry Allen Branch Table ($525) is new to Design Public these days. The table is part of Allen's Reality series product line, which you hated in the past, but I'm keen on this design. The pedestal of this table is an actual casting of a Dogwood branch, and the wooden base is crafted from solid Ash wood. The result is both derived from and resembles a natural element. The thing is: I can't quite figure out where I'd place it in a home. I'm stumped. What do you say?
