Short on confetti for your New Year's Eve party? Don't toss that holiday wrapping paper! Cut each sheet into a few small squares and send them through a paper shredder, and then send the shredded pieces through once more if necessary.

German designer Susanna Hertrich's Chrono Shredder is "a hybrid between calendar, clock, and waste-producing automaton," that has no on/off functionality. It runs unstoppable for 365 days until it has continuously shredded all of its calendar pages, which are kept on a paper roll. The paper is fed through a hacked paper shredder, which is programmed to use exactly 24 hours to shred one "day."

It's not often that I have top-secret papers that need to be shredded, but it happens occasionally. I can't justify cluttering up my house with a clunky shredder, or spending the dollars on something I rarely use. I would, however, throw down for a pair of The Container Store Stainless Steel Shredding Scissors ($8.99).

Although Eric Abrahamson and David H. Freedman's book A Perfect Mess claims that there are hidden benefits to being unorganized and cluttered, I'm not sure I'm a believer, and I stand by the aesthetic reasons for being organized. So, I thought I'd give you a few tips on streamlining your workspace that seem to have helped me out.
