House Hunting For Oprah

There's a rumor flying about that Oprah is house hunting for new digs in DC, so she'll be close to buddy Barack Obama. NYPost is claiming that she's been eyeing a nine-bedroom, $50 million Georgetown mansion from afar. The property on the market fitting that description is the nine-bedroom, $49 million, 1801 Federal-style house shown here, which features "majestic grounds & gardens, parking for 100 cars, ballroom, gatehouse [and an] additional building overlooking Washington Monument and Rock Creek Park." But, she certainly hasn't made any purchases yet, if the rumor is true. Since Oprah's a busy lady, I decided to do a little house hunting in the District for her. This Just In: O at Home Folds

Oprah Winfrey's shelter magazine, O at Home has folded, according to a Hearst press release. The publication's content will be consolidated back into its flagship, The Oprah Magazine, under Editor in Chief Susan Reed. The last issue, Winter 2008, will hit newsstands Nov. 25. Former editor in chief of O at Home, Sarah Gray Miller, has been named the editor in chief of Country Living magazine. Sadly, another shelter magazine bites the dust. Clearly, Wall Street isn't the only one suffering these days.

This Just In: Oprah Lists Her Miami Island Pad

According to Real Estalker, Oprah has put her 1,838-square-foot, 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo on Miami's Fisher Island for $2.09 million. The listing for the property reads:

Spectacular direct ocean views through walls of sliding glass and from covered privacy on a gracious seaside terrace [. . .] gorgeous design, inviting layout, and fantastic features combine to achieve a supreme level of plush waterfront, tropical living. Beautiful upgrades and details within this bright and airy Seaside Village home include wonderful water views from every room, custom wood built-ins and more!

There's no way this is the only property Oprah, who earned $275 million last year, calls home. She also sold her Buckhead, Atlanta property this year. Considering that she bought the property in 1996 for $660,000 cash and that the condo is notably understated for someone with her income, I'm guessing that this may just have been an investment property. Don't get me wrong — the views are magnificent, the décor calm and elegant, and the built-ins were beautifully executed. But, I'd expect something more along the lines of a Viking range and Sheila Bridges interior design, if she actually stayed there.

This Just In: O Sells Home

According to Big Time, power woman Oprah Winfrey has discreetly sold her 4,806-square-foot, 39th-floor penthouse in Atlanta’s Buckhead area for $1.8 million. The sale of the five-bedroom penthouse actually took place on June 4. Oprah paid $1.52 million for the property in mid 2003, but Big Time says, "it’s unclear what Oprah’s use was for the unit during the years she owned it." Among her vast real estate empire, she also owns another property in Douglasville, Ga., so it's unlikely she'll be disturbed much by the headaches of relocating.

Roundup: Stylish Finds at HSN

The Home Shopping Network has bewildered me since the '90s. I never understood the phenomenon, why people get so attached to it . . . and more importantly, why people would buy all that crap. But, as it turns out, HSN does actually sell some stylish items, particularly in the home décor department. Interior designer Nate Berkus, beloved by Oprah Winfrey, carries an exclusive home collection with the retailer-cum-television-network, as well as textile designer John Robshaw and party planner to the stars Colin Cowie. HSN actually also has a handful of both classic and trendy pieces that are quite stylish, I must say, but not necessarily by a recognizable brand.
